Common problems for Battery

HP Pavilion g series
Microsoft Windows 7 (64-bit)

I tried all the suggestions in this long thread: http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Hardware-and-Upgrade-Questions/Keyboard-not-working-properly-o... but none of them work.

I tried to type in safemode and the problem is still there. My keyboard not only randomly skips letters but also jumps randomly too.

I thought the issue might be due to malware but after running several reputable subscription based AV programs like Kaspersky and Mcafee, my system is clean. I also take care not to visit unreputable sites.

So my issue seems to be either software related or hardware. I'd hate to go out and buy a replacement keypboard, assuming I can find one and then try to install it if the issue remains.

My only other option I think is to do a fresh install or perhaps try to install Windows 10? I don't know how this older laptop will run with Windows 10.   I know with my desktop it ran slowly and I uninstalled Windows 10 and reverted back to Win 7x64.

Any suggestions or guidance is appreciated.

Thanks

The OEM keyboard is multilingual but that's has always been a major nuisance. I know this has been a major criticism of this laptop locally. If possible, the English only if that works fine with the mobo.

Interstingly, we have two of the same g6 laptops. The one with the keyboard issue is my sister's who recently passed away. The other is mine that I rarely use.  Now mine is starting to exhibit early warning signs of keyboard issues.

Was there a problem with the g6 series laptops? Has this issue been problematic over the years? It seems too much of a coincidence.

Given the troubleshooting you have already done the odds are very strong it is hardware. Upgrade to Windows 10 has just about no chance of working. How does an external usb keyboard behave? If we could have the full model number (lots of "g-series") we can help you find and install a replacement keyboards. On most models it is cheap and relatively easy to do.

Hi

I haven't had a chance to connect a USB keyboard. Assuming the keyboard works fine then we can safely assume it's the laptop's keyboard? If not, then it could be the motherboard or?

My HP is the g6 series laptop.

The external keyboard tests the keyboard controller on the motherboard but cannot rule out an issue with the keyboard port. But if the external usb keyboard works OK we can be maybe 95% sure the problem is the laptop keyboard and replacement will fix the issue.

Where can I find a new g6 keyboard and instructions to install?

I regret to inform you, I don't see the model number on the laptop. It just says g6.  I can post a pic if you like.

I am located in Canada.

Open the battery compartment and look in there.
