I’m having serious issues with my HP Pavilion g6 Notebook PC and suspect that an outdated BIOS might be the cause. Here are the details of my notebook:
Model: HP Pavilion g6 Notebook PC
Product Number: A7D78EA#AB9
Current BIOS Version: F.35
Motherboard ID: 3566
Warranty Start Date: 2012 (now out of warranty)
Issues I’m Facing:
Keyboard and Touchpad Stopped Working:
A while ago, the built-in keyboard and touchpad stopped functioning. I’ve been using an external mouse and keyboard since then.Internet Connectivity Problems:
I can connect to my home Wi-Fi network, but accessing the internet is almost impossible unless I repeatedly try to load pages in the browser. No Display on Startup:
Recently, the notebook started having display issues. When I turn it on, the screen remains completely black for about 20 minutes, even though the power LED is on and the cooler is running. Sometimes, it shuts down by itself without displaying anything.
What I’ve Tried:
Resetting the BIOS by removing the battery and holding the power button.
Cleaning the internals and checking connections (RAM, HD, etc.).
Testing with a different power adapter.
My Request:
Since my notebook is out of warranty, HP no longer provides BIOS updates for it. I believe updating the BIOS might resolve these issues. If anyone has the latest BIOS version for my model or knows where I can find it, I would greatly appreciate your help.
Please let me know if you need any additional information. Thank you in advance for your support!

Updating the BIOS:
If you suspect the BIOS is outdated but cannot find updates on HP’s website, proceed carefully:
- Find the Correct BIOS Version:
- If someone can provide you with the latest BIOS file for your specific model, ensure it’s legitimate and matches your system exactly.
- Create a BIOS Recovery USB:
- Use HP’s BIOS update tool if available. Alternatively, download the BIOS file and create a bootable USB using Rufus or similar tools.
- Flash the BIOS:
- Follow the manufacturer’s instructions precisely. A failed BIOS update can brick your device.
General Steps:
- Check Power Supply:
- Ensure your power adapter and battery are functioning correctly. Consider replacing them if they show signs of wear or failure.
- Clean and Reseat Components:
- Ensure all connections (RAM, HDD, and other internal components) are secure and free of dust.
Backup and Consider Reinstalling Windows:
If none of the above resolves your issues, a fresh installation of Windows might help. Be sure to back up your data beforehand.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.

Hi @Fridunantjan08,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
It seems like your HP Pavilion g6 Notebook PC is experiencing multiple hardware and potential firmware issues. While an outdated BIOS might contribute to some of the problems, the symptoms suggest that there could be broader hardware malfunctions. Here's a structured approach to address these issues.
Address the Keyboard and Touchpad Issue:
- Check Device Manager:
- Connect your external keyboard/mouse, press Win + X, and open Device Manager.
- Look for any yellow exclamation marks under Keyboards or Mice and other pointing devices. If found:
- Right-click and select Uninstall device.
- Restart the notebook to reinstall drivers.
- Update Drivers:
- Download drivers for your model from the HP support site (if available). If unavailable, generic Windows drivers might suffice.
- Perform a Hardware Test:
- Access the HP Diagnostics tool (if still installed) by pressing Esc or F2 repeatedly on startup. Run a test for the keyboard and touchpad.
Fix Internet Connectivity Problems:
- Reset Network Settings:
- Open Command Prompt as Administrator and run:
netsh int ip reset
netsh winsock reset
ipconfig /flushdns
- Restart the laptop afterward.
- Driver Update:
- Ensure the Wi-Fi driver is up to date. Visit HP’s support site or check the manufacturer's site for the network adapter.
- Test Another Network:
- Try connecting to another Wi-Fi network or use a mobile hotspot to rule out router issues.
Resolve the No Display on Startup Issue:
- Test RAM:
- Power off the laptop, remove the battery and power adapter, and reseat the RAM module(s). If you have multiple modules, test one at a time in different slots.
- BIOS Recovery:
- If the screen remains black, force a BIOS recovery:
- Power off the laptop.
- Hold Win + B (or Win + V for some models) and press the power button for 2-3 seconds.
- Release the power button but keep holding the keys. Wait for any beeps or BIOS recovery screen.
- If the screen remains black, force a BIOS recovery:
- External Monitor:
- Connect to an external monitor to check if the internal display is faulty.
