HP Pavilion x360 14 Convertible PC 14-dy1000 (436S6AV)

My HP laptop internal keyboard, fingerprint, touchpad nothing is working. External mouse, keyboard works. But when I open the BIOS, my laptop's touchpad, keyboard works, that means there is no hardware problem.

I have updated Windows

I have reset the laptop

I have installed a new Windows

I have updated the BIOS

I have updated the driver

Tried reinstalling the driver, but it also doesn't work.

Laptop: HP Pavilion x360 convertible 14-dy1xxx

Windows 11 24H2 version

Drivers that include:

Touchpad:

ELAN Precision touchpad filter driver

Keyboard:

HID keyboard device

standard PS/2 keyboard

Mouse:

ELAN input device

HID compliant mouse

I have another HP laptop with these same drivers. But there is no problem related to touchpad or keyboard.

@fmjoynal, Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

Thanks for the detailed info — it really helps narrow this down. Based on what you've said:

  • Keyboard, fingerprint, and touchpad don’t work in Windows.
  • They do work in BIOS, which proves the hardware is okay.
  • You've already tried: BIOS update, driver update/reinstall, resetting Windows, and even a clean installation of Windows 11 24H2.

That rules out most common culprits — you're clearly tech-savvy, so we can dive into deeper fixes. Let’s try a few things that are often overlooked in edge cases like this:

Check If Windows Is Disabling Internal Input Devices

Sometimes Windows mistakenly disables internal devices during boot.

  • Press Win + X → Device Manager.
  • Expand:
    • Keyboards
    • Mice and other pointing devices
    • Human Interface Devices
  • For each device, right-click → PropertiesPower Management tab → Uncheck "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power".

Also check Hidden Devices: In Device Manager → View → Show hidden devices — look for any grayed-out or ghost input devices and remove them.

Check for Device Conflicts in System Configuration

Sometimes certain startup drivers clash.

  • Press Win + R, type msconfig, press Enter.
  • Go to Services tab → Check “Hide all Microsoft services” → Uncheck third-party services (especially from ELAN, Synaptics, etc.).
  • Go to Startup → Open Task Manager → Disable suspicious entries.
  • Restart and test.

Try Booting into Windows Safe Mode

This can help identify driver-level issues.

  • Hold Shift while clicking Restart → Troubleshoot → Advanced Options → Startup Settings → Restart.
  • Press 4 for Safe Mode.

If touchpad/keyboard work in Safe Mode, it’s 100% a software/driver conflict, not hardware.

Registry Fix for Internal Devices (Especially ELAN/Synaptics)

A registry setting might be suppressing them. Here's how to check:

  • Open Registry Editor (regedit).
  • Navigate to:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\System

  • Look for a key like:
    • EnableInputDevices → Make sure it's not set to 0.
    • If it doesn’t exist, no worries — move on.

Also, check for any ELAN-specific entries under:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Elantech

You can export and compare these keys with your other working HP laptop if needed.

Try Older Driver Versions

Sometimes the newest drivers can break compatibility — especially with Windows Insider or 24H2 builds.

  • Try installing an older version of the ELAN driver from the official HP website for your exact model: HP Pavilion x360 14-dy1000 Support Page.
  • Uninstall the current ELAN driver from Device Manager (and check Delete driver software).
  • Then install the older one and restart.

Check for Unusual Windows Feature (24H2 Specific)

Since you’re on Windows 11 24H2, it’s worth noting this is still a preview build unless you're in an insider program.

  • Try creating a Windows 11 23H2 bootable USB and boot from it.
  • Choose Repair your computer → Command Prompt.
  • Run this to verify the integrity of the system:

sfc /scannow

And also:

DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth

If the problem started after updating to 24H2, then it's possibly a bug with that version. You might want to roll back to 23H2 and see if it persists.

Check Group Policy (if using Pro/Education)

Sometimes group policy settings can block certain device inputs.

  • Run gpedit.msc.
  • Navigate to:

Computer Configuration → Administrative Templates → System → Device Installation → Device Installation Restrictions

Make sure “Prevent installation of devices not described by other policy settings” is not enabled.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

I had this touch laptop. But a few months ago, the touch screen was broken due to a slight crack in the display. When I used to rotate 360° earlier, the Windows taskbar would be auto-hidden, and the internal keyboard and touchpad would be disabled. But now, even if I don't rotate, the Windows taskbar would be auto-hidden, and the internal keyboard and touchpad would not work.
Keyboard, touchpad, and fingerprint all work in the HP component test from the BIOS. But it doesn't work in Windows

I am 100% sure that my laptop is in tablet mode. Because when I select the following option from Taskbar behavior, I see a change in my taskbar.
All the Apps icons in the taskbar are hidden.

"Optimise taskbar for touch interactions when this device is used as a tablet."

I have disabled the "Device orientation Sensor" from Device Manager.
I have locked the rotation. But my problem is not solved.
I have disabled Sensor Monitoring from Services
Any other way?
