Hi @Devanshu789

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

I understand how frustrating it must be to expect 75W GPU performance and instead see 50W reported in the NVIDIA Control Panel, especially when you’re noticing lags. You’ve already taken the right step by checking the control panel readings, so let’s go through the adjustments that can help restore stable performance.

Steps to Improve GPU Performance on HP Victus 15

Check Power Settings in Windows

  • Go to Settings > System > Power & Battery > Power Mode.
  • Set it to Best Performance.
  • This ensures the GPU is allowed to draw maximum power when needed.

Update NVIDIA Drivers

  • Open the HP Support page: HP Software and Driver Downloads.
  • Enter your Victus 15 model number and download the latest NVIDIA graphics driver.
  • Alternatively, update via GeForce Experience to ensure optimal performance.

Update BIOS and System Firmware

  • On the same HP support page, check for BIOS updates.
  • Install the latest BIOS and chipset drivers, as these control power delivery and GPU limits.

Check HP Omen Gaming Hub

  • Open Omen Gaming Hub (preinstalled on your laptop).
  • Under Performance Control, select Performance Mode.
  • This mode allows the GPU to reach higher TGP values compared to Balanced or Quiet modes.

Ensure Proper Cooling

  • Place the laptop on a hard, flat surface to allow airflow.
  • Clean vents with compressed air if dust has built up.
  • Thermal limits can reduce GPU wattage if cooling is restricted.

Run a GPU Stress Test

  • Use a benchmark tool like 3DMark or Unigine Heaven to monitor GPU wattage under load.
  • Compare results after applying the above steps to confirm improvement.

The NVIDIA Control Panel may show dynamic wattage depending on workload and thermal conditions. Even if the maximum design TGP is 75W, the GPU can operate at lower wattage when idle or under restricted power modes.

Ensuring performance mode, updated drivers, and proper cooling will help it reach closer to the intended wattage during gaming or heavy tasks.

You’ve already shown persistence by checking the control panel and noticing the discrepancy. With these steps, you should see smoother performance and more consistent GPU behavior.

Hi @Devanshu789

I understand your concern — it’s confusing to see 75W listed in specifications but only 50W reported in the NVIDIA Control Panel, especially when you’re experiencing lag. Let’s break down what’s happening with your HP Victus 15:

Why You See 50W Instead of 75W

  • Design vs. runtime TGP: The GPU in your Victus 15 is rated for up to 75W, but the actual wattage shown in NVIDIA Control Panel reflects current draw, not the maximum design limit.
  • Model variation: Some Victus 15 configurations ship with GPUs capped at 50W TGP depending on cooling design and BIOS power tables. Even if the marketing page mentions 75W, your specific unit may be configured for 50W.
  • Omen Gaming Hub absence: On certain Victus models, advanced performance controls (like Performance Mode) are not available. This means the GPU runs at its factory‑set TGP without user override.

What You Can Do

Verify your exact GPU model and TGP limit

  • Open GPU‑Z (free tool) and check the “Default TGP” value.
  • This will confirm whether your GPU is factory‑set to 50W or 75W.

Update BIOS and drivers

  • Go to HP Victus 15 Drivers & Software and install the latest BIOS, chipset, and NVIDIA drivers.
  • BIOS updates sometimes adjust power tables and can unlock higher TGP if supported.

Check Windows power mode

  • Settings > System > Power & Battery > Power Mode → set to Best Performance.
  • This ensures the GPU isn’t throttled by OS power policies.

Cooling and thermal limits

  • If the system detects high temperatures, it will cap GPU wattage to protect hardware.
  • Keep the laptop on a hard surface, clean vents, and consider a cooling pad to reduce throttling.

Understand factory limits

  • If GPU‑Z confirms your card is capped at 50W, that’s the hardware design for your Victus variant. In that case, no software setting will raise it to 75W — the only way to achieve higher wattage is with a model that ships with the 75W configuration.

Bottom Line

Your Victus 15 may be one of the configurations factory‑set to 50W TGP. The “75W” listed online refers to the maximum supported by the GPU family, but not every Victus unit is tuned to that level. Updating BIOS and drivers is worth trying, but if GPU‑Z shows 50W as the default, that’s the designed limit for your system.
