Hi @fidel2222,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding your laptop!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

Try these steps:

Keyboard Shortcut:

  • Make sure you've tried turning on the backlight using the keyboard shortcut. For HP laptops, this is usually done by pressing the F5 or F4 key. Look for a key with the backlight icon on it.

BIOS Settings:

  • Boot into the BIOS settings to check if the backlight has been disabled there.
  • Restart your laptop and press Esc or F10 as soon as it powers up.
  • Navigate to the “Configuration” or “Advanced” tab to find the keyboard backlight settings and ensure it’s enabled.

HP Command Center:

  • Use the HP Command Center or HP Support Assistant to manage and adjust your keyboard backlight settings.
  • Download HP Command Center or HP Support Assistant from the HP website if you don't have it installed.

Update or Reinstall Drivers:

  • Go to the Device Manager (search for "Device Manager" in the Windows search box).
  • Expand the "Keyboards" section, right-click on the keyboard device, and select "Update driver."
  • You might also consider uninstalling the driver and then restarting your computer. Windows will reinstall the driver automatically.

Windows Mobility Center:

  • In some models, the Windows Mobility Center lets you toggle keyboard backlight.
  • Search for "Windows Mobility Center" in the Windows search box, and check if there is an option to turn on the keyboard backlight.

Check HP Support Site:

  • Visit the HP support website and search for your specific model to find any related support documents or solutions.

Reset SMC (System Management Controller):

  • For some laptop models, resetting the SMC can resolve backlight issues.
  • Shutdown your computer.
  • Press and hold the power button for 10-15 seconds while it is turned off.
  • Turn your laptop back on.

I hope this helps.
