Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

my system's keyboard intermittenly stops working ever since i downloaded a combination keyboard/touchbad driver when the touchpad wasn't working one time. i had noticed that i had to keep updating the bios for the touchpad to work, but the bios had the latest update. i also noticed that the bios on the system update page and the one i have are from the same year, but a different manufacturer, so i decided to download the other driver. it did seem that my system also did not previously have such a driver. i downloaded it anyways, and the keyboard immediately stopped working. i tried system restore, and it said the system restore didn't work, but the keyboard started working again. Ever since then, the keyboard stops working intermittently. I have found that in the device manager, there is a driver for a 2006 keyboard, but i purchased this system in 2016. i am unable to do system restore in my windows 10 system now for some reason. Also, i cannot find that driver that I installed listed. This problem did not exist before. I am pretty sure that unplugging the adapter, or removing the battery, or turning the power off is not the solution.

Hello @JoshuaCaleb .

  1. In Windows, search for and open Device Manager.
  2. Click View, and then select Show hidden devices.

  3. Click the arrow next to Keyboards, right-click the keyboard name, and then click Uninstall to remove the device from Windows.
  4. Remove all devices in the Keyboards category, and then restart the computer.
The keyboard should now work correctly.

Please let me know if you have further feedback. This keyboard is now failing about 7 minutes after turning on the system. I can’t see any sign that a driver was the combination of touchpad and keyboard, but a touchpad driver keeps failing and it said it was since 2009. I bought it new in 2016. It may be the one I updated last year. If windows cannot do system restore or update, will hp still install fix the driver? I can’t even use the keyboard daily anymore. I don’t know if this is because of hardware and driver problems or because of some hacker that keeps randomly getting into my system. I know there is a conflict with the touchpad and there is an intrusion.

Note: errors on this driver changed in device manager. Event viewer shows something else that I can only find for earlier windows versions. Please advise. I figure it will help to get keyboard solution before taking the system to a shop.
