Hi @thuser1,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

I completely understand how frustrating and even a little disheartening it can feel when your HP laptop suddenly shuts down and refuses to power back on, especially when it's out of warranty.

Step-by-Step: What to Do When Your HP Laptop Won’t Turn On

  1. Perform a Hard Reset (Power Drain)
    • Disconnect the charger and remove any external devices (USBs, SD cards, etc.).
    • If your laptop has a removable battery, take it out.
    • Press and hold the power button for 15–30 seconds to drain residual power.
    • Reconnect the charger (without the battery if removable) and try turning it on.

  2. Check the Power Adapter and Charging Port
    • Feel the adapter, does it get warm? If not, it might be faulty.
    • Try a different compatible charger if available.
    • Inspect the charging port for dust or damage.

  3. Look for Signs of Life
    • Any LED lights blinking? Fan spinning? Caps Lock flashing?
    • A blinking Caps Lock or power light can indicate a hardware error. HP has blink code diagnostics to interpret these.

  4. Try an External Display
    • Connect your laptop to an external monitor to rule out a display issue.

  5. Remove and Reseat RAM (if accessible)
    • If you're comfortable, open the back panel and reseat the RAM modules. Faulty or loose RAM can prevent startup.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have an amazing day!
