HP 15-gw0000 Laptop PC (1E420AV)
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Whenever I start my laptop, the fan makes too much noise. That noise has never been heard from my laptop before, even when playing cscz. The fan starts again after some intervals and stops automatically.

i have scanned for virus many times, this issue is with me from past 5 months. Earlier i used to slap on the fan, and sometimes that worked

i have checked task manager but nothing suspicious found

Hi @11AYUSH11,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

I’m sorry you’re going through this; I understand the concern and don’t worry I’ll help you with this.

To better understand the issue, could you please provide a few more details?

Does the fan noise start immediately at boot, or only after Windows loads?

Have you noticed if the laptop feels unusually hot when the fan ramps up?

Did this issue begin after a Windows update or BIOS update, or did it just appear suddenly?

Here are some troubleshooting steps worth trying:

  • Update BIOS and drivers: Go to HP’s support page for your model and install the latest BIOS and chipset updates. These often include fixes for fan control.
  • Check HP Hardware Diagnostics: Restart and press Esc → F2 to run diagnostics. Run the thermal test to see if the fan or sensors are reporting issues.
  • Adjust power settings: In Control Panel → Power Options, set the plan to Balanced and check advanced settings for “Processor power management.” Lowering the maximum processor state slightly (e.g., 90%) can reduce heat and fan activity.
  • Physical inspection: Since you mentioned “slapping” the fan sometimes helped, it’s possible the fan bearings are worn or the fan is loose. In that case, a service centre may need to replace the fan.

When the fan spins loudly, does the laptop also slow down or freeze, or is performance normal? That detail will help confirm whether this is just a cooling control issue or a deeper hardware fault.

I hope this helps.

I'm glad I could help! 😊 If this resolved your issue, please mark it as "Accepted Solution" and click "Yes" on "Was this reply helpful?" Your feedback not only keeps us going but also helps others find the solution faster!

Take care and have an amazing day ahead!

Best regards,
