Product: hp elitebook 8440p
Operating System: Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

My laptop has a bad battery so it doesn't keep on when on battery only for long and even if it's connected to the charger and battery is in it still shuts down on me, I tried running it without battery and just the charger only but it doesn't power on. Every boot up there's a notification saying the battery is faulty but isn't it supposed to be able to run without the battery? And why does it shut down it's self when I have it on running with charger and battery in ?

If the battery is bad it can cause all kinds of weird issues with the power. You are going to need to run a complete diagnostic test on the battery and AC adapter and the motherboard. Obviously the problem lies in one of these areas. Ultimately you need to replace the battery.

I tried the charger in another laptop and it works perfect. I am certain the battery is bad, but is the laptop not supposed to power on without it? And how do I trouble shoot mother board

Run full UEFI diagnostics on all components. Tap esc as you power up then F2.
