Hi @Samara781,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
If your HP 17.3-inch laptop won't turn on, even though it's fully charged, here are several troubleshooting steps you can try.
Check the Power Button:
- Ensure you're pressing the power button properly, and if your laptop has a dedicated power button light, check if it's illuminated.
Perform a Hard Reset:
- Disconnect the power adapter.
- Hold down the power button for 15-20 seconds to drain any residual power.
- Reconnect the power adapter and try turning it on again.
Check the Battery and Power Adapter:
- Try turning on the laptop with the power adapter plugged in, but without the battery (if removable). This can help rule out a battery issue.
- If your laptop doesn't turn on while connected to the charger, test the adapter on another device, or try using a different charger to ensure the adapter is functioning.
Try an External Display:
- It's possible that the laptop is turning on, but the screen isn't displaying anything. Connect your laptop to an external monitor or TV via HDMI and see if you get any display.
Listen for Signs of Activity:
- When attempting to turn it on, listen for any sounds like fans, hard drive spinning, or lights flickering, as these could indicate that the laptop is running but the display is not working.
Inspect the Display:
- If you're hearing sounds or seeing lights, but the screen stays black, the display might be malfunctioning. Try adjusting the brightness or connecting to an external monitor.
Reseat the RAM:
- If you're comfortable doing so, turn off the laptop and remove the RAM sticks (if accessible). Clean the contacts gently with a dry cloth, then reseat them firmly.
Check for Hardware Issues:
- If none of the above works, it's possible there may be a hardware failure, such as a motherboard or internal component issue.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
