Hey there! @Anibuddy,

Please share the product number of the PC to assist you better.

Try the steps recommended below.

In the Windows search box, type TouchPad.
From the results list click TouchPad settings.
Click Additional settings.
Click the TouchPad Settings or the ClickPad Settings tab. If you have a Synaptics device, the tab includes the Synaptics icon.
You can adjust the TouchPad settings for scrolling.
Put a check mark in the checkbox next to scrolling to enable scrolling.
Also, put a check mark next to two finger scrolling to enable two finger scrolling.

Try uninstalling the touchpad drivers from the device manager and install the latest touchpad drivers and BIOS using HP support assistant and check if it helps.

Hi A4Apollo,

Please see details of my laptop below:

Product name : HP Spectre x360 Convertible 13-ap0xxx.

Product number: 4WT85UA#ABA

I am unable to find clickpad or Synaptics settings under Touchpad Advanced settings. I have attached the screenshot.

I will also reiterate the problems I encounter:

1) Two finger scroll gets disabled randomly.

2) The cursor/pointer moves randomly at times ( more prone when battery is on lower side). I am unable to use Touchpad at that time & it requires me to restart the laptop to resolve the issue.

Additionally, when I try to update Drivers for Synaptics HID touch pad it says "the best drivers for your device are already installed."

Let me know how to proceed.

Hi A4Apollo,

I tried the steps mentioned by you (driver update). I faced the issue again today even after driver update and then updated BIOS. I also checked through HP Troubleshoot tool and the results show Passed.

I noted that I cannot access ClickPad settings in my laptop even after Driver & BIOS update. Can you please suggest how to get those settings?

Another thing, I was able to take Snapshot of TaskMgr last time the issue happened (snapshot attached).

Please note that I bought the Laptop from BestBuy in US but am currently on travel to India for next 4 months. Is HP warranty covered in India as well?

Hi! @Anibuddy,

Thanks for the update.

Try the steps recommended below to open the clickpad settings.

TouchPad and ClickPad configuration options are located on the TouchPad properties page. Use the following steps to open the properties page and enable or disable individual settings.

  1. In the Windows search box, type TouchPad.

From the results list click TouchPad settings.

  2. Click Additional settings.

    Clicking additional settings

  3. Click the TouchPad or ClickPad Settings tab . If you have a Synaptics device, the tab includes the Synaptics icon  and might vary from the graphic.

    ClickPad settings

  4. You can adjust the settings for scrolling, clicking, sensitivity, edge behaviors, and gesture actions to suit your personal preferences.

If you still have issues opening the clickpad settings try performing a complete system reset on the PC.

Refer this article to know more information about performing a system reset. Click Here

Also, if you are travelling to a different country you will only receive software support and there will be no hardware support.

However, if you have an international warranty on the PC you can avail hardware support too.

Hope this helps!

Take Care! 🙂

Hi,

I don't see Clickpad settings when I click on Additional Settings under Touch Pad Settings. Please check the snapshots attached.

@Anibuddy I'm writing on behalf of my colleague @A4Apollo as the tech is out of the office for the day,

The first thing I would do is uninstall the software and use an external mouse to help you reinstall it. Make sure you do restart your computer after doing this.

The other thing that could be the issue is the settings itself. It may be because of palm detection, or the sensitivity of the scrolling speed, or touch reaction.

Touch reaction being, how hard you have to touch the touch-pad in order for the touch-pad to work.

If none of this helped, please run a hardware test to identify a hardware malfunction using the interactive test listed below:

  1. Hold the power button for at least five seconds to turn off the computer.

  2. Turn on the computer and immediately press Esc repeatedly, about once every second. When the menu appears, press the F2 key.

  3. On the main menu, click Component Tests.

  4. The Component Tests menu displays.

Your Component Tests menu might be different, depending on the components installed on your computer.

Mouse/Touchpad Tests - This consists of two tests, the Pointer Test and the Drag and Drop Test.

To run the tests, click Mouse/Touchpad. Select the test you want to run, and then click Run once. Follow the instructions to complete the test.

NOTE:

Bluetooth devices are not currently supported.

Let me know how that goes,

And If you wish to thank me for my efforts, you could click on "Accept as solution" on my post as the solution should help others too.

Hi,

Just to reconfirm when you say uninstall the software do you mean I should uninstall the driver?

Can you please recommend the steps to uninstall the driver/software?

Regards,

Anibuddy

@Anibuddy here are the steps to uninstall and auto-reinstall the drivers from the device manager:

  1. Press Windows key + X and go to Device Manager
  2. In the Device Manager window find your touchpad drivers.
  3. Right-click them, and select Uninstall.
  4. Select the option to delete the driver package from the system.
  5. Go to the Action menu of the Device Manager and select Scan for Hardware changes to reinstall your drivers.
  6. Restart your computer.

Often you’ll need drivers for Windows 10, so check your manufacturer’s website for Windows 10 drivers. If there are no Windows 10 drivers download latest Windows 8 drivers and install them in compatibility mode. To install drivers in compatibility mode do the following:

  1. Download the driver and right click the setup file.
  2. Choose Properties and then go to the Compatibility tab.
  3. Check Run this program in compatibility mode for and choose Windows 8 from the list.
  4. Install the driver and see if the problem still persists.

In addition, you can always check for Windows updates and keep your Windows 10 up to date to avoid any compatibility issues.

If you wish to thank me for my efforts, you could click on "Accept as solution" on my post as the solution should help others too.
