I upgraded the ram to 4 gig on this machine and installed win10 pro. NVIDEO driver updates will not work and the coprocessor has no driver associated with it. HP site does not seem to handle upgrades from Vista Business to Win 10.
Any help is greatly appreciated. I suspect there are Win7 drivers somewhere that may work but I have not yet found them.
Thanks -- I just wanted to make this machine useful again...

Hi, @philm75
There is no W7 driver for the coprocessor device, so you have to use the Vista driver.
The coprocessor device will probably not install on W10 when you run the sp exe file.
If it doesn't you can manually install the driver as follows...Run the below driver. If it installs the coprocessor device, great. If not...
This package contains the driver that enables the NVIDIA nForce MCP77MV Chipset in the supported notebook models and operating systems.
https://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp39501-40000/sp39535.exe
...go to the device manager, and click on the Coprocessor device needing the driver.
Click on the driver tab. Click on Update Driver.
Select the Browse my computer for driver software option, and browse to the driver folder that was created when you ran the file.
That folder will be located in C:\SWSetup\sp39535.
Make sure the Include Subfolders box is checked, and the driver should install.
Then restart the PC.

Well, please try the following Windows 7 drivers

Hope they help.
Regards.

If the driver posted above by banhien doesn't work- what is the hardware id of the device? Right click, choose Properties, click on Details tab. Use the dropdown to select hardware id. Post the top string.

Thanks for the link. I had tried the site but since I have the 64 bit win 10 installed tthe site defaults to "no supported" operating system. -- I just need to find the direct url for the device drivers versas using some of the more "helpful" tools.
I appreciate your help -- I suspect the answer is a simple .inf

You're very welcome.
The file I posted contains both the 32 and 64 bit files.
If you got an unsupported operating system error, just follow my manual install instructions.
The driver folder was still created in C:\SWSetup
The setup inf file is in the SMU folder.

That device is an nVidia nForce GPU - I believe it's an nForce MCP77. The entire nForce line was EOLed by nVidia in 2013. The last drivers in nVidia's own download system for the nForce 7 series seem to be Windows 7 drivers of 2011 vintage. If they don't work (make sure you select 32 or 64 bit as appropriate), you'll have to put up with non accelerated graphics or drop the system down to Windows 7.
Unfortunately hardware does become End of Life. It is often impossible to upgrade a laptop satisfactorily beyond the version of Windows supported by the manufacturer, though sometimes it is possible if you accept some limitations. In this case, I have my doubts that you will get Windows 10 running satisfactorily on a laptop that seems to be around 7-8 years old - but I wish you all the best with your experiments.
Edit to add: I hope Paul's instructions get you up and running.

Paul's answer was spot on -- the 64bit vista driver did install properly when done manually. Even after a reboot it still seems to be a happy camper. Thank you all for this help. Off I go to my last battle withe the NViDEA Force Controller not wanting to upgrade either. Last time I tried that it wiped out windows forcing me to go back to an archived version.
The work and support in this forum is awesome. It just proves that there are still good people in this goofy world!
Best Regards to all.

You're very welcome.
Manually install the W7 graphics driver from your notebook's support page.
This time do it a little differently.
Download and save, but do not run this graphics driver.
This package provides the graphics driver for the NVIDIA nForce MCP77MV Chipset in the supported notebook/laptop models and operating systems. This driver enables graphic display and provides a user interface to access display properties.
https://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp45001-45500/sp45230.exe
Download and install this free file utility. The 2nd file at the top of the page is for 64 bit.
After you install 7-Zip, right click on the graphics driver you saved.
Select 7-Zip from the list of items on the menu.
Have 7-Zip Extract to: and let it extract the driver file into its folder name (sp45230).
Once that is done, go to the device manager, click to expand the Display adapters device manager category.
Click on the Microsoft Basic Display adapter listed there. Click on the driver tab. Click on Update Driver.
Select the Browse my computer for driver software option, but this time, at the bottom of that window, select the Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer.
Click on Have Disk, and browse to the driver folder 7-Zip created>VistaWin7_64>Display>NVHM (Setup information file), and see if the driver installs that way.
If so, restart the PC, and hopefully the graphics will be working just fine.
