Hello All.

I have a HP Pavillion Star Wars edition notebook product number N5R61UA.  The hard drive went bad so I replaced it with another one I had with Windows 7 on it.  As you can imagine it's taking a while to work the bugs out.  Currently, I'm trying to get the USB controller on the left side working.  I think it's a driver issue and I can't seem to locate the drivers anywhere.  Can someone point me in the right direction?

I did the USB test at F2 and got this:

USB port  -  Failed  -  9US9AC-85C8MF-MFPWLK-8D7A03  -  6/24/2017

TIA

Rich

You're very welcome.

I'm thinking by the looks of your screenshot, that you actually need the USB3 controller driver for that device.

And while I am at it, I'll give you the links to some of the rest of the drivers you need...

For the USB controller, download, unzip and run the setup application from the driver at the link below.

https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/22824/Intel-USB-3-0-eXtensible-Host-Controller-Driver-for-...

Ethernet:  Download, unzip and run the setup application from the 2nd driver at the link below...

http://www.realtek.com.tw/Downloads/downloadsView.aspx?Langid=1&PNid=14&PFid=7&Level=5&Conn=4&DownTy...

PCI Data Acquisition...

This package contains the driver that enables the Intel Dynamic Platform and Thermal Framework firmware. Intel Dynamic Platform and Thermal Framework provide system temperature and power utilization information for the system thermal protection to function properly. This package is provided for supported notebook models running a supported operating system.

http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp75501-76000/sp75506.exe

PCI Simple Comms...

This package provides the Intel Management Engine Interface (MEI) Driver for the supported notebook models and operating systems. The Intel Management Engine Interface enables communication between the host operating system and the Intel Management Engine firmware.

There can be several devices labeled as unknown when the drivers are missing.

Please post the hardware ID's for the unknown devices and then I will post the links to the drivers you need for those.

Use this guide for how to find the hardware ID.

Hi:

The port on the left side of the notebook according to the user guide is the USB 2 port.

If you installed the Intel chipset installation utility and restarted the PC, the USB2 port should be working.

I am not a PC repair tech by trade or training, but it would seem to me that when you get a failure code like that, it is a hardware related issue.

In any event, here is the latest Intel chipset installation utility for your model...the 2nd file down on the left side of the page is the auto install file.

Thanks Paul.  Still not working.  Tried it a couple times.  Here is a shot of whats not working:Capture.JPG

Interesting that the USB ports and the Ethernet are on the same card.  Any other ideas?

Unknown Device:

That's good news.

Here are the links to the remaining drivers you need...

PCI Dev:  Download, unzip and run the setup application from the first file listed at the link below...

http://www.realtek.com.tw/Downloads/downloadsView.aspx?Langid=1&PNid=15&PFid=25&Level=4&Conn=3&DownT...

Unk  Dev:

Receives notifications from the integrated accelerometer and automatically parks the hard drive to reduce the risk of damage if the PC is accidentally dropped.

How about the graphics driver?  Is that installed?

If the graphics driver is missing, you will find a Standard VGA Adapter showing up under the Display Adapters device manager category.

Without the graphics driver you will not have Windows Aero, be able to adjust the screen resolution, and graphics acceleration will be disabled.

yeah...grapics drivers seem ok.

Wow...thanks for the help.  I'm totally good to go.
