I forgot to address the other part of your question...The ' Two SODIMM slots - customer non-accessible/non-upgradeable' statement in chapter 1 of the service manual means HP wants any work done inside the notebook to be performed by an authorized HP PC service center.

 

If you look at chapter 5, of the service manual, there is a procedure to remove and replace the memory.
