OMEN 16.1 inch Gaming Laptop PC 16-b1000 (4Z7T3AV)
Microsoft Windows 11

Hi,

I am getting frequent BSOD issues in my HP Omen 16 Gaming Laptop. On Microsoft forums, they informed me that, it is causing because of my Network drivers. So, I should update my Wifi and Ethernet drivers.

This is what I am getting from HP Driver download.

As you can see, these drivers are a bit outdated. The release date is 2022-2023.

Should I download the latest from their own website (Realtek or Intel)? How can I know if the Ethernet driver is Realtek or Intel?

In my Device Manager, it shows this.

Thanks

Hi:

Typically, you can download the latest Realtek ethernet driver from the Realtek site.

I'd select the third one on the list that supports power saving, because it begins with your notebook's ethernet driver version of 1168...

Download, unzip and run the setup application.

Realtek

I downloaded and installed the latest version. No problem so far.

Win10/Win11 Auto Installation Program (NDIS) - Not Support Power Saving 10.72 2024/08/30 5 MB

What is power saving feature? Is it really necessary?

Does the second one in the list provides Power Saving? Is power saving really necessary? Could I install it?

What is the maximum speed of Ethernet? How many mbps? is it 100?

Thanks

You're very welcome.

I believe that the power saving feature allows you to check the box to turn off the adapter in the device manager to save power, doesn't it?

Some folks don't want that feature and some do.

Your PC's ethernet adapter is 10/100/1000 MBPS.

Hi,

If I use power saving, will it affect the downloading operation done in the background? Will it turn off the downloading operation?

10/100/1000 MBPS means? Max speed of 1000 (1gpbs) ? or Is it depends on the cable used? It select 10 or 100 or 1000 mbps based on the cable used?

Thanks

Hi:

The power saving setting only kicks in when the ethernet adapter is not in use.

But some folks want that disabled because they use wake on lan if such a feature exists in the BIOS and if the notebook is in sleep mode, you have to uncheck that setting in order to use that feature.

Max speed of 1 GBPS.

And yes, the cable you use matters.

I believe that you must use a CAT5e or CAT 6 cable to get the gigabit ethernet speeds.

I use CAT 6 to guarantee I am getting the gigabit connection, and I have confirmed that I do.

In other words, CAT 4 and older do not support that speed.
