Dear community,
I'm looking to upgrade my dad's laptop - HP Pavilion DV7 1240 EB entertainment notebook - but I need some more info as the european site doesn't provide all info.
The notebook still works fine after a complete reinstallation - with upgrade to Win 10, but I would like it to be a little faster....
I would like to upgrade the HD to a SSD of around 240GB, but I need to know what the specs are.
I presume it's a 2,5" Sata connected drive, but is it ? or is it still PCIe as this is a laptop from around 2009 - 2010.
What is the max I can put ? do I have to mind the thickness?
Also would it be good to upgrade the RAM ? What is the max this notebook can handle? and If I buy new RAM ... is it DDR, DDR2? and at what speed ... mhz ...
also, are there some other details i should mind?
Thanks in advance for your help!
ps also the internal battery seams to be depleated after all those years but I've noticed the battery is in some sort of casing which I don't know how to change ...
Kind regards,
Koen!

Welcome to HP Forums,
This is a great place to get support, find answers and tips,
Thank you for posting your query, I'll be more than glad to help you out 🙂
As I understand you need the specifications of your laptop in order that you may upgrade the same,
Don't worry as I'll be glad to help, however, to provide an accurate resolution, I need a few more details:
Did you check the service and upgrade guide for your HP PC?
(Click here, if you haven't checked yet)
While you check that, here's what you need to know,
I'm afraid your PC hasn't been tested with an SSD and as such HP doesn't recommend an upgrade to SSD as it may or may not support the same, that said, here's the supported HDD list for you PC as tested by HP:
Dual hard drive configurations:
● 1-TB (500-GB, 5400-rpm × 2)
● 640-GB (320-GB, 7200-rpm × 2)
● 640-GB (320-GB, 5400-rpm × 2)
● 500-GB (250-GB, 7200-rpm × 2)
● 500-GB (250-GB, 5400-rpm × 2)
Single hard drive configurations:
● 500-GB, 5400-rpm
● 320-GB, 7200-rpm
● 320-GB, 5400-rpm
● 250-GB, 7200-rpm
● 250-GB, 5400-rpm
Refer to the link shared above for more details.
