Hi.
I need to replace the Wi-Fi adapter on my Pavillion DV6850er laptop because the adapter is failing (dropping the connection continuously) and if he works - works with so slow the speed.
I have tried everything possible from updating the bios to switching off the power management check box, updating the driver, blocking all other networks through the command prompt.

Nothing has worked so far.

Can someone suggest a replacement for this adapter to some more new network adapter with 802.11ac standard?

Thanks in advance.

Your machine was built before 2014 therefore due to the whitelist it is impossible to replace its wifi adapter to a modern one. I'm using the following solution for my 10 years old machine

              https://www.scorptec.com.au/product/Networking/Adapters/67965-USB-AC53-NANO

There are many from different brands around and cheaper too.

Hi Banhien.
But maybe it is possible to replace it with this card FullSize Atheros AR5BXB72 802.11 b,g, n 300Mbps 2,4 GHz/ 5GHz?
Because they are of the same form factor.
They have the same other characteristics, except for speed.

Did you check the whitelist, does your machine support that ?

Hi.
Good point, but I don't know how to do it.
Can You send me the info/link/rule and I will check it?
Thank you a lot.

I did say your machine was built before 2014 and it has a whitelist in BIOS.

The laptop is so old it is hard to find the Service Manual now. The compatible wifi adapters are listed in the Manual. Without the Manual we cannot find the full list but what you can do is remove the wifi card you have and find a new identical replacement. Should be able to find one on amazon or ebay. Your laptop has an easy access panel on the bottom to remove the wifi card. Do that and post a picture or give us the HP Part number written on it and we can link you to a replacement.

It is not going to be an 802.11ac device. If you want that, you will have to settle for a USB wifi adapter, which is actually not a bad choice.
