Hi @Hattyc,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

I understand you want to upgrade your HP Stream 14-cb120ds from Windows 10 to Windows 11 and free up space by removing Windows 10 properly. Let’s go step by step to do this safely.

Check Windows 11 Compatibility

Press Windows + R, type msinfo32, and press Enter.

Look for the following:

Processor: Must support 64-bit and TPM 2.0.

RAM: At least 4 GB.

Storage: At least 64 GB free space.

You can also download PC Health Check from Microsoft to confirm if your laptop is eligible for Windows 11.

Backup Your Data

Before making major changes, back up important files to OneDrive, an external drive, or a USB drive.

This prevents any accidental data loss.

Free Up Space on HP Stream

HP Stream laptops have limited storage, so first remove unnecessary files:

Open Settings → System → Storage → Temporary files → Delete.

Uninstall unused apps from Settings → Apps → Apps & features.

This step ensures enough space for the Windows 11 installation.

Create a Windows 11 Installation Media

On another PC, download the Windows 11 Media Creation Tool from Microsoft.

Use it to create a bootable USB drive (at least 8 GB).

Install Windows 11 on HP Stream

Plug the USB drive into your HP Stream.

Restart the laptop and press Esc repeatedly → F9 Boot Menu → select the USB drive.

Choose Custom Install → Delete the existing Windows 10 partition (usually C: drive).

Install Windows 11 on the now-empty partition.

Follow On-Screen Prompts

Windows will guide you through region, language, and Microsoft account setup.

Make sure to select Keep nothing if you want a fresh install and maximum space.

Install Drivers After Upgrade

After Windows 11 is installed, go to HP Support → Software & Drivers → download Windows 11 drivers for your HP Stream 14-cb120ds.

This ensures Wi-Fi, audio, and touchpad work correctly.

Check Storage Optimization

After installation, check Settings → System → Storage to confirm that Windows is using minimal space.

I hope this helps.
