I have the same problem as well. It's embarrassing especially when you're in a packed auditorium. I hope this is fixed soon!

As long as your expectations are realistic, there's nothing wrong with a glimmer of hope - no matter how tenuous its grounding!

Here's a very quick rough-n-ready overview of my status with HP...

I installed the HP recommended BIOS F31 to fix the fan continuously running issue, It fixed that issue, but killed performance - badly.

I installed BIOS F32 in the hope that would finally fix both. And no it didn't. Worse than that, I could no longer then revert back to BIOS F28. I was stuck with no fan on cold (good), but appalling performance when actually doing anything (very, very bad).

Believe me, I would rather have the fan on all the time, than the dire performance I currently have...

I mean seriously... here's a video ... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a-ijoSYniTU

Give it a thumbs up if you agree that it's unacceptable ☹️

... When you spend up to £2000 (RRP) on a supposedly high performance laptop, you really don't expect 1GHz or less on 100% CPU load for an advertised base frequency of 2.2GHz.

In September an official support case was opened.

"Premium" support tried logging on, tried new BIOS versions all the while taking 3 months to not fix it, with me making phone call after phone call. On average more than 1 phone call per week for 3 months. All to no avail.

Enough was enough, I insisted that the support wasn't working and to send it for repair. This they did.

It didn't fix it.

I said enough was enough, and was put through to HP Customer "Relations". A completely mis-named department if ever there was one.

Basically it was made clear to me that they have no interest in what consumer rights are here in the UK, and all they would do was send it off for repair again.

It was shipped off under protest, and duly returned, you've guessed it, still with the same terrible performance.

Customer "Relations" then duly made me the offer that they would keep all my money, but give me a far inferior product instead. 😲

Just stop and think about that for a second...

HP Customer "Relations" offered that they will keep all of my money that I'd given them for a high spec / high performance PC...

...and in return they will swap my computer for one with a lower specification.

It's a good scam if you can get away with it - sell someone a supposedly high spec item but give them something that doesn't work - then when they complain - offer to keep all their money, and give them a lower spec replacement in its place!

Hey presto- net result - you've sold some mug a low spec item, but taken the money from them for a high spec item! Ca-Ching$$$$ 🤑

For obvious reasons I declined their "kind" offer, and insisted that they either replace with a proper equivalent, or give me a full refund as I'm entitled to under the UK Consumer Rights Act 2015 for a fault developing within 6 months that they've been unable to fix.

They now appear not to be responding to my communication at all.

I'm currently still waiting and have heard nothing so far - it's now longer than they've taken previously to respond to any commincation. I'll give them a little bit longer...

But it is beginning to appear that the only option might be to start legal proceedings in the small claims courts here in the UK.

So thanks to HP, I've wasted several months last year trying to work with them, giving them every opportunity to fix the problems in their product. Far longer than I needed have done under the consumer rights act, but I wanted to give them every possible opportunity to sort it.

And how do they respond?

By now it appears ensuring that I will be spending the next 6 months going through the tortuous legal process of taking them to the small claims court.

So you buy a laptop with £2000 RRP and what do you get for your money ... it appears 12 whole months of hassle and headaches.

OK, this was a long post...  here's a quick quiz... I mean, who doesn't like a quiz 😃

Don't worry, it's multiple choice 😊

Question 1

Will I ever be buying an HP product again in future?

[Yes / No]

Question 2

Will I ever recommend buying an HP product to friends or family?

[Yes / No]

Question 3

Will I ever recommend buying an HP product in future to my worst enemies?

[Yes / No]

Unfortunately for HP, I don't have that many enemies - well, at least not so many that merit such an extreme punishment of buying an HP product.

So you think you've done your homework. You've checked all the specifications, worked out what you want to use it for, and finally taken the plunge, and it's a lot of money to spend on a new PC! Imagine your disappointment when you get it home, set it up then slowly (please excuse the pun) you ...
