Hi, I bought a new KI04 laptop battery from HP store and installed it. While plugging to the AC adapter it takes a delay for few minutes before actually starting to charge the battery. When the battery is more than 65%, it charges on the go with no delay. When it is around 40-60%, it takes 5 to 8 minutes delay to start charging. When battery charge is below 40%, it takes around 10-15 minutes to start charging. When the laptop is turned off, it does not charge even kept for a long time and rarely start after some 15-20 minutes. I checked and verified the AC adapter and it is working perfectly fine. I found this a peculiar case. Anyone having any similar experience or does new batteries show any kind of similar properties. Also battery is draining too much. When I switch off and turn on laptop the next day, about 15-20% charge has drained off. Any suggestions please. TIA.

Hi@ Viveku46647,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.Apologies for all the inconvenience. Request you to follow the below troubleshooting steps

I have a few steps listed below that should help you resolve this concern:

Unplug the charge and use the laptop until the battery drains to 15%.

Turn off the laptop and turn it back on after 30mins.

Reinstalled Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery under device manager:

1) In the search box, type and open “Device Manager”.

2) Expand “Batteries”.

3) Right-click the "Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery" that is listed there.

4) Click on “Uninstall”.

5) At the prompt put a check in the box to remove the current driver

6) Shutdown the computer.

7) Remove the battery for minute and then put it back in.

😎 When the computer comes back up it should automatically find the driver.

9) Go to Device Manager.

10) Expand Batteries.

11) Right-click the "Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery" that is listed there.

12) Click "Search automatically for updated driver software"

Do the same thing with Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Embedded Controller.

Restart the computer and the issue should be fixed.

Let's try this:

Run hardware diagnostics test on battery and Charger:

Use the following steps to open the Component Tests menu.

  1. Hold the power button for at least five seconds to turn off the computer.
  2. Turn on the computer and immediately press Esc repeatedly, about once every second. When the menu appears, press the F2 key.
  3. On the main menu, click Component Tests.
  4. The Component Tests menu displays. Your Component Tests menu might be different, depending on the components installed on your computer.
  5. To run both tests simultaneously, in the Component Tests menu, click Power Source, and then click Run once. Each component can also be tested individually.

AC Adapter Test:

The AC Adapter test provides an interactive test to determine if the AC power adapter is functioning properly. A good battery is required for this test. Before running the AC Adapter Test, HP recommends verifying that your computer can receive power by connecting a known working AC adapter.

Follow these steps to perform the AC Adapter Test.

  • In the Component Tests menu, click Power, and then click an AC Adapter Test.
  • Click Run once.
  • The AC Adapter Test begins.
  • When the test is complete, the results are displayed on the screen.

Battery Test:

Follow these steps to perform the Battery Test:

  1. In the Component Tests menu, click Power, and then click Battery.
  2. Click Run once. The Battery Test begins.
  3. When the battery test is complete, the results are displayed on the screen. For additional battery information, click Battery Details.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance.

Hi,

Thanks for your message. I had already tried all the above mentioned steps and all component tests were successful but still the issue persists as stated in my original question. Also I noted that the AC adapter and Battery becomes too hot when charged for an hour. When it is charged from 20% to 80% it becomes too hot that I have to remove the adapter.

TIA

@Viveku46647

Since it's a new battery make sure you have all the software installed including the windows. Please update the battery drivers & the pending software from the support assistants. Update the BIOS too & check if you are still experiencing the same issue.

Thanks for the information. Software updates are fully updated to date. I also updated the BIOS manually. But still the issue persists. I did the HP Hardware Diagnostics tool, both AC adapter and Battery tests were showing successful. I did Performance Tune-up check in the HP support Assistant too. Any suggestions for reinstalling windows?

TIA

Hi @Praveenbv,

I finally got in touch with the service center and they found that it was an issue with the new battery. They have ordered for the new one and it might take a couple of weeks to get it. Thank you for your support.
