Hello all,

 

Following my previous Post on a M2 SSD upgrade (Previous Post can be Found Here!), I bought the correct (I hope...) type of hard drive (This is the Aforementioned Product), as suggested, however I'm having trouble getting it to work yet again.

 

More specifically, my Laptop refuses to recognize it whatsoever and depending on how I insert it, it sometimes causes my Laptop's Network and Bluetooth adapters to stop working!

Any ideas or help will be highly appreciated once again!

Did you install Windows on it?  A drive with no Windows installed on is not recognized by the system.

Your new M.2 SATA SSD should be a right one. See this thread below. This person successfully installed a 1 TB M.2 SATA SSD on his ProBook 470 G4.

Hey Tk,

 

The idea was to get the Disk recognized by the Laptop, in order to then install Windows on it through a USB, as I don't really have any other way to install it. How would you suggest I go about installing Windows on the Drive? Do I need to buy some sort of Adapter and do it that way, as I don't have another Laptop or Computer that can take this type of Drive?

You don't need to connect the M.2 SSD to another PC. You just need to plug a usb drive into a usb port on another PC and download and run HP Cloud Recovery Client to create a bootable recovery usb drive.

 

Install the M.2 drive in the notebook. Plug the recovery usb drive into the laptop and boot the system from the usb drive to start the installation process that installs Windows, drivers and HP software.

Apologies for the late reply, but turns out the M.2 SSD might be faulty, hence all the issues. I've sent it back for a check-up and we'll go from there.

 

In the meantime, I was looking for alternative solutions, in case the laptop's M.2 adapter is faulty, and came across the option to remove the laptop's DVD player, as I won't be needing it anymore, and instead insert an SSD adapter. Reading through the specs of the laptop, I believe the slot of the DVD player is 9mm, however I'm struggling to find an adapter that is 9mm, as most are 9,5mm (This is the one I was looking at).

 

Do you think the 9,5mm adapter will fit or should I keep looking for an 9mm adapter instead?

Page 2 of your service manual indicates that your model has a 9.5 mm optical drive.

 

Not sure why you are attempting to install a storage drive in a caddy, when your model has a SATA slot for a 2.5" hard drive/SATA SSD. A SATA slot for an optical drive most likely runs at SATA2, while a hard drive SATA slot runs at SATA3 speed. This means SATA2 is significantly slower than SATA3. If you install Windows on a drive in the caddy, the system may not even boot from the optical SATA slot. Many folks use a drive in the caddy for data storage, not as a boot drive.

 

As suggested in my previous reply, did you try to install Windows on the M.2 SATA SSD from a recovery usb drive?  What made you think the M.2 SATA may be faulty?
