HP Spectre x360 13-ae012dx
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I'm trying to install the firmware listed on my support page for the HP Thunderbolt Dock G2 version 1.0.60.1. I am currently on installed package version 1.0.38.1. When I try to run the firmware update, it says this about my Thunderbolt Controller driver:

Device driver out of date. Firmware cannot be installed. Before proceeding, please go to the product page of your Host PC and install the Intel Thunderbolt 3 Secure Connect Software version 17.3.73.350 or later for Windows 10 or 16.3.71.300 or later for Windows 7.

The installer says I have N/A Installed version but when I go to my Device Manager and look it up there, I'm on version 17.3.72.2 or version 0.0.01 behind what I need to install the firmware. That's the most recent driver listed on my support page, 17.3.72.250 Rev.A. Has anyone been able to find a version of the Intel Thunderbolt 3 Secure Connect Software version 17.3.73.350 or later for Windows 10?

I tried downloading directly from Intel but they only have a version available for the Intel NUC. Not for HP devices. When I go to https://thunderbolttechnology.net/updates, that page redirects me to the HP support page for the HP-specific one. I tried Windows Updates but it says I'm up to date. I eventually tried the version for the Intel NUC out of desperation but when I tried to run the firmware update for the HP Thunderbolt Dock G2, it updated the DisplayPort Hub, Audio Base but failed on the Base Microcontroller. Since the firmware only partially updated, it bricked my dock. I was eventually able to get it to re-detect the Thunderbolt Controller after trying a few things but now the firmware on my HP Thunderbolt Dock G2 is only partially updated. Right now, the HP Thunderbolt Dock G2 firmware updater says my installed version of the Thunderbolt Controller is N/A. How do I get it out of this limbo and fully updated?

I found one that seems to have worked!

I did it by searching the exact version number needed and found this FTP site: ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp87001-87500/ It's sp87962. It shows compatibility for the HP EliteBooks and ZBooks but seems to work for my laptop too. It let the  firmware update complete successfully for the HP Thunderbolt Dock G2 to version 1.0.60.1 Rev.A but also 1.0.62.1 Rev.A. That version wasn't on my support page but was on the HP Thunderbolt Dock G2 support page here: https://support.hp.com/us-en/drivers/selfservice/hp-thunderbolt-dock-g2-with-combo-cable/21816261

I got the one I posted for you from the Elitebook 850 G5.

When I click on the link for the G2 with Combo cable I get this message:

Software and drivers for
HP Thunderbolt Dock G2 with Combo Cable

We were unable to retrieve the list of drivers for your product.  Please select the desired operating system and select “Update” to try again.
How can there be NO drivers?  Increasingly frustrating...any help out there? Im about ready to return the laptop for the simple reason that USB devices cant work through the dock? There must be a solution somewhere.
