My kill-a-watt meter reports 0.5 watts when off. this is an easier way to diagnoise the problem without even checking on the battery results.  I don't think the EPA would approve if every single HP of this mode wastes half a watt when the laptop is off.

Well I was hoping to have reported back by now on the new or repaired unit ... but I still haven't gotten it back. So fair warning for anyone else hoping to get their laptop repaired.

 

I sent it in on 2/2/21, and just today the case was updated with a new shipping date of 3/26!

 

*UPDATE 3/13/21 - My unit was returned earlier this week. The repair slip said they changed out the motherboard and "tested thoroughly", unfortunately the problem remains. Starting from 100%, the battery drained to around 65% over about 48 hours when shut down. I still hear the same faint static whine from around the CPU.

 

Very disappointing....
