HP envy 13 - 2018hp
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

First off, I want to emphasize that the battery works OK.

- HP tests shows battery is fine

- HP envy 13 from 2018 year.

- duration time is what is supposed to. About 7 hours, deppending on the usage.

- It only seems that there is no "detailed" info about the battery dropping from 100 to 99 , 98, 97, 96,95,94, as it drops from 100 to 93 directly. However, it does not drop instantly. It takes a while, almost about 20-25 minutes from Unpluggin at 100 percent  to drop to 93. So in fact it seems the battery is holding that 100%.

I have seen other issues around, just by doing a bit of research you can see that more people are affected:

spectre x360: https://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Hardware-and-Upgrade-Questions/New-laptop-battery-drop-from-1...

hp notebook user: https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_10-hardware/windows-10-battery-jumps-from-...

- The issue started happening from brand new, and happens every single time you unplug the device after it has reached full charge (100%)

- Is this done on purpose, i.e.: avoiding battery degradation over time ?

- Battery calibration has been done.

- BIOS is the latest one.

I'm not stating that this is a "real" issue, as, the battery lasts what it is supposed to , and it lasts from 100 to 93 what it should be (I mean , its not an instant drop). I'm just curious and want to learn about this curious behaviour.

Thanks!

@wecky84 I understand it isn't an instant drop, however, it isn't how its supposed to work, I suggest reinstalling the battery drivers using the below steps to resolve the issue:

  • Unplug the charge and use the laptop until the battery drains to 15%.
  • Turn off the laptop and turn it back on after 30mins.
  • Reinstalled Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery under device manager,
  • Restart the computer and the issue should be fixed.

And here's a link with details on improving battery performance: Click here

Hi Riddle_Decipher,
Thanks for the tips.
I did your steps reinstalling the battery drivers.
-I unplugged the carger and let the laptop drop to 14%
battery. Switched it off completely (I dont have fast boot ON, so it
should behave like a real switch off).
I let it rest about 30-40mins, still while unplugged.
Turned computer on, and uninstalled Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery driver. At that moment the charge
capacity is at 0% due to having uninstalled the driver.
Restarted the computer. Still everything while being unplugged. Windows automatically installs the driver and measures about
13-14% remaining yet.
Now I connect the charger and let it go to 100%.
When it is fully charged, I disconnect the charger and..........
It stays for 15 minutes at 100%, then it drops to... 94%! (Yes, it had always been 93 percent, now after this procedure it changed to 94)

So, I got 1% more back of battery detailing, hehe.

Did I do the procedure correctly or should have I plugged in the cable at any other given moment?

I have repeated the procedure 3 times (in case I gained 1% percent in each case...hahahah)

Thanks,

There it is:

21:11 , unplugged charger, obviously 100% remains

21:29,  thats 18 minutes later, still 100%

21:30, then it goes to 94%

@wecky84 loved the part where you attempted the steps multiple times in the hopes of getting 1% each times, and I hope that did the trick 😉 however, since it hasn't, I suggest performing a test and calibrating the battery using the steps mentioned in this link: Click here
