This may be a strange question but I've just opened up the laptop to retrieve the hard drive but it appears to be literally missing.

All the material I've managed to download suggests the hard drive should be in the bottom left corner, but it is empty.  Does this mean there isn't a removable hard drive?

Hi, @sibri

Your notebook has a M.2 solid state drive, not a 2.5" drive...

The drive is circled in red, and can be removed and replaced.

You have removed it, and have it reversed.  The other end goes into the slot.

See chapter 1 of the service manual for the supported M.2 drive types.

HP Pavilion x360 m3 (model numbers m3-u100 through m3-u199, m13-u100 through m13-u199, m3-u000 throu...

The M.2 slot supports SATA M.2 SSD's only, not NVMe.
