I bought this laptop a few months ago. Suddenly, after starting up, I get this message:

Battery Counterfeit Check Error

HP recommends using HP batteries only. Using a non-compatible or non-HP battery might pose health and safety risks. The installed battery does not appear to be an HP battery and fast charging might not be available.

  • Weird thing is that I never opened up the laptop, so it still contains the original battery. When I click enter, I can continue using the device, but I keep getting the message every time I start up. The battery works and charges normally, so I don't know why the message keeps popping up.

Hi @Vishal146

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for posting your query! We're here to help you get back up and running.

Since your HP laptop still has its original battery, but you're getting the Battery Counterfeit Check Error, it's likely a BIOS or firmware issue rather than an actual battery problem. Here’s how to fix it:

Update BIOS Firmware

  • Visit HP’s official support page and download the latest BIOS update for your laptop model.
  • Follow the instructions carefully to update your BIOS.
  • A user reported that updating the BIOS resolved the issue here.

Reinstall Battery Drivers

  • Open Device Manager (Win + X → **Device Manager`).
  • Expand Batteries, right-click each battery driver, and select Uninstall device.
  • Restart your laptop—Windows will automatically reinstall the drivers.

Perform a Battery Calibration

  • Fully charge your laptop, then let it drain completely until it shuts down.
  • Recharge it to 100% without interruptions.
  • This helps the system recognize the battery correctly.
  • A video guide on battery calibration is available here.

Since your battery is charging normally, this is likely a software issue rather than a hardware defect.

Try these steps and let me know if you need further assistance! 🚀
