Notebook Battery Failure

HP Recommended
HP Notebook 15-da1065nt
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

My HP Notebook 15-da1065nt laptop that i bought just March 2020 have become a total failure, and I don't understand why HP will be making devices with awful battery power, worst than even basic smartphones. The battery cannot even last more than 30mins before shutting down unannounced, then if you try to turn it on after plugging it into a power outlet it gives the error "PRIMARY (INTERNAL) BATTERY (601).

This is really frustrating and annoying considering it is very expensive and now my Masters thesis work is suffering.

I need HP to send me a replacement battery or replace the entire device. Writing them only returns automated "NOREPLY" emails with no further attempt at their Customer Agents reaching you to find a solution. I am tired and frustrated.

Hi Steviyke,

I am Anurag from India.

I have been in the same situation, and was looking for the same answers. The thing is hp 15 series is made using really poor hardware. Its hdd/sdd is slow, gpu is weak, and a very poor quality battery and bios. My battery went from 4 hrs backup to 30 minutes backup in 1.5 years. What makes the problem worse is the poor battery calibration by the bios. It thinks that there is charge remaining ( when actually there isnt), that's why your notebook might shut down at 30-50%. Mine too would shut down after 30 mins saying 50% charge remaining.

If you would have done any graphic intensive work on your laptop when it was new, you would have seen how quickly the battery drains. It would have barely given 1 hour of backup, which indicates how quickly its battery discharges when cpu functions or produces heat. which is what also happens when laptop gets old, thus battery discharges even faster.

Coming to your question, as batteries have 1 year warranty they wont send you a replacement, even if it was under warranty they would have said it has exceeded its charge/discharge cycles. The only case they would send a replacement is if your battery stops working completely or if you are lucky.

Thus, you should buy a new compatible battery from any other company as the original batteries are mostly out of stock.

But the problem would still remain, a battery I bought went from 3 hrs backup to 30 mins in 5 months, and the next one is giving my 3 hrs of backup after 20 days, but would shut down at 50-60%, because of incorrect calibration by bios and windows and there is no solution to this, as there are no updates for the bios. (manual calibration of battery wont work as it does nothing to bios).

Summing up:

1. you will have to buy a new battery.

2. If not original, it will go from 3 hrs backup to 30 mins in 5-8 months.

3. It might still shutdown at random percentages, because of faulty bios which thinks there is charge left in the battery.

Thank you Anurag for your response, and it's sad HP sells low-quality laptops at high prices, bought mine at about $800.

The battery is really wacky and frustrating, same with the Webcam that I have never been able to use since I bought it, keeps talking about "Media Feature Pack for N and KN versions of Windows 10" which I have installed many times without success.

I will try to either sell off the laptop and add money to it and get a Macbook instead -- my studies are suffering due to this issue as I cannot use the laptop outdoors without problem as if I bought a Desktop, not a laptop.

Thanks for your time.
