HP Chromebook - 14-db0003na
Chrome OS

When using the notebook, the mouse will often just stop moving smoothly, often not moving at all. It will also repeatedly click by itself with no input. For example, I could be watching a video with the Chromebook on my desk, and it will suddenly start clicking in short bursts, even though it was fine for a few minutes.

@Hydramezs Welcome to HP Community!

I understand that you are facing an issue with the touchpad issue.

You can tap your touchpad to click or change the direction you scroll. Here's how:

  1. At the bottom right, select the time.
  2. Select Settings.
  3. In the "Device" section, select Touchpad (or Touchpad and mouse).
  4. Change how your touchpad works:
    • Turn tap-to-click on or off
    • Turn on tap dragging
    • Swap your primary mouse button, if you use a mouse
    • Adjust how quickly your pointer moves: Move the sliders next to "Touchpad speed" or "Mouse speed"
    • Choose the type of scrolling: Traditional (swipe up to move the page down) or Australian (swipe up to move the page up)

If your touchpad stops working, try these steps:

  • Make sure there is no dust or dirt on the touchpad.
  • Press the Esc key several times.
  • Drumroll your fingers on the touchpad for ten seconds.
  • Turn your Chromebook off, then back on again.
  • Perform a hard reset.
  • If you have more than one account on your Chromebook, delete the account that has problems with the touchpad, then re-add the account.

Hard reset your Chromebook

For most Chromebooks, follow the steps below:

  1. Turn off your Chromebook.
  2. Press and hold Refresh Refresh + tap Power.
  3. When your Chromebook starts up, release Refresh.

On tablets: Press the Volume Up and Power buttons for at least 10 seconds, then release them.
