HP 15-ay106ni
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hi Guys,

I recently purchased an HP 15-ay106ni notebook in South Africa and want to increase the RAM now.

The support line tells me that the MAX capacity for RAM on this machine is 6GB.  This can surely not be the case?

Does anyone know what the max capacity is and which RAM I can use?

Thanks

Hi,

Your PC supports max 16GB of DDR4-2133 Sodimm  (2x8GB).

For performance and system stability and for dual channel supporti t is best to have exactly the same RAM in each slot. You can get kits for good prize online which are made specifically for this.

Here is a list of the max memory and configurations. It is 16 GB max, not 6 GB.

Two non-customer-accessible/upgradable memory
module slots (Intel Core processors)
DDR4-2133 dual channel support (DDR4-2400 bridge
to DDR4-2133)
Supports up to 16 GB of system RAM in the following
configurations:
16384-MB total system memory (8192×2)
12288-MB total system memory (8192×1)
+ (4096×1)
8192-MB total system memory (8192×1) or
(4096×2)
6144-MB total system memory (4096×1)

Just to be sure... non-customer-accessible means that I have to give it back to HP and have them do the memory upgrade?

or

Can it be done by any reputable hardware technician?

HP Recommended

Hi,

I believe that it should be done by a HP service centre to not void warranty even though it seems to be accepted that it can be done by any technician. I would not hesitate to do it even myself or by trusted technician as the prize will be a lot lower and you can choose your preferred RAM.

Hope it helps,

David
