I want to remove the Optane and put an actual storage there.

I know it's M.2 2280, but, what  is it compatible with?

B key, M key, B&M key?

SSD, SATA, AHCI, PCIe, NVME, x2, x4?

 

That port supports a lot of configurations and seems like not all of them are compatible, so I need to narrow my options.

You can use M.2 NVMe SSD's from Crucial P1 series, Samsung 970 EVO series or similar. For example
