Omen 17-cb0080nr
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I recently brought an Omen 17-cb0080nr (2019 new model, rtx2070) and the laptop had a problem with its CPU temperature. The core 0, 1, 2 and 3 often reach 10-15 degree C hotter than core 4 and 5 in stress test (performance mode, max fan). I returned it and asked for a replacement, which arrived today with exactly the same problem.

Does anyone here experienced this problem with their Omen 17? I wonder if that is just a thermal paste application issue or something more fundamental like a badly designed heatsink. If it is former I might redo the paste when I have time, otherwise I’ll have to return it, which is extremely inconvenient because I don’t have a backup computer.

@RainbowRunner,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

I reviewed your post and I understand that some CPU cores are getting hotter than other cores.

Don’t worry, I assure you I will try my best to get this sorted.

  • What is the exact temperature it is showing?
  • Have you performed any troubleshooting steps?

Meanwhile, I recommend you update the BIOS and the graphics driver from the below link and check if it helps.

Also, make sure that all the Windows updates are installed on the computer.

Let me know how it goes and you have a great day!

Cheers!
