Hello dear readers,
Looking from above on the laptop, the right fan is constantly (both while iddle and, for example, playing games) running notably slower. What made me think so? The right fan is quiet compared to the left one. Also, warm breeze coming out of the exhausts at the back of the laptop is like three times stronger at the left side. Lastly, right part feels a bit more warm to the touch, although I haven't measured it corectly, since I do not posses a tool to do so. The laptop is brand new, three weeks old. I am really concerned about the fact that a device that costs closely five times the local minimum wage is performing such a dysfunction. There are no ways to check it my self, like via dos or HP CoolSense, which is useless to my knowledge so far, by the way.
Thank you for reading

Hi @igotbadfanguys,
Good Day. Thank you for posting your query in the HP community. I read the post regarding fans running at different speeds. I will be delighted to assist you here.
Superb description and commendable diagnosis of the issue before posting. Kudos to you for that. 🙂
For better clarity and to assist you correctly, I would require more information regarding this:
- Is the notebook functioning and operating correctly without freezing, overheating or shutting down?
- Did you update the bios from the HP support site?
- Does the fan make a very loud noise?
For now, let me keep you informed about a few things here.
- Please update the bios first from this link: http://hp.care/2yqlFKb after selecting the correct operating system and check if the fan quietens down.
- The CPU fan is designed in such a way that it works at optimum speeds to keep the computer’s processor from overheating.
- The other fans will spin at higher speeds when the computer is stressed with graphics intensive apps like videos editing software, (like Photoshop), streaming high-end videos or playing graphics intensive games.
- For now please try all the relevant steps that best match the current issue from this “Fan is Noisy and Spins Constantly, PC is Warmer than Normal” link: http://hp.care/2yqplM6 to try and resolve the issue.
- Also, check this “HP Notebook PCs - Reducing Heat Inside the Laptop to Prevent Overheating” link: http://hp.care/2yqnTJt and follow the prescribed steps and check if the issue is corrected.
- Please run diagnostics on the cooling fan from this link: http://hp.care/2wr1AAN and choose the component tests option to run diagnostics on the fan.
- This will give us a correct picture. If the fan fails it will display failure code and then you might need to contact HP support to get the computer serviced.
- If the problem still persists after a bios update, then you might still need to contact HP phone support to get the computer serviced as there is more to it than meets the eye and a complete check will be done at the service center to find out if any component is faulty.
HP Technical Support can be reached by clicking on the following link: http://hp.care/2r9wSvP
- Once the support page opens please select the country in which you're located. Next, enter your HP model number on the right.
- Next, choose the 'Contact Support' tab at the top and scroll down to the bottom of the 'HP Support- Contact' page to fill out the form provided with your contact information.
- Once completed click the 'Show Options' icon on the bottom right.
- Lastly, scroll down to the bottom of the page and select 'Get phone number.' A case number and phone number will now populate for you.
They will be happy to assist you immediately.
If the unit is under warranty, the manufacturer’s warranty should take care of it for you.
Please perform all these steps patiently as it is critical to resolving the issue. The trick is to remain patient, Going by your technical expertise and competence I am sure you will be able to perform these steps without breaking a sweat.
Hope this helps. Let me know how it goes. To simply say thanks, please click the "Thumbs Up" button to give me a Kudos to appreciate my efforts to help. If this helps, please mark this as “Accepted Solution” as it will help several others with the same issue to get it resolved without hassles.
