Hey guys.
I have a Compaq cq58-301ee. I had it for around 4 to 5 years and never cleaned it up. I have recently started to notice that the laptop overheats quite badly to a point where it's hot to touch so I thought why not to open it and clean it maybe replace the thermal paste and clean the heat sink cause really it's that bad. But when I completely disassembled the laptop, reached to the mobo and lifted it out I couldn't remove the 4 screws holding down that thing on top of the cpu no matter how hard I tried. I really need help cause I must replace that thermal paste cause temperature can go as high as 95 °c and I'm afraid of damaging my components due to overheating

Hi,
I don't think the overheating problem is related to a cpu/heatsink issue. The specs for this laptop show that it has a Sandy Bridge processor and a FreeDOS as the OS. The laptop wasn't designed for Windows 10 and this kind of issue is not uncommon with older laptops in general. It's just a guess but it's probably related to the drivers compatibility. HP don't provide Win 10 drivers for this model and never have. The hw drivers that keep the laptop working are developed by Microsoft with some basic functionality embedded in the operating system. However, it slowly loses even the basic functionality because of the new updates and at some point it might not even boot up. Perhaps a fresh install might help but soon or later it will start overheating again. I'd consider a new computer that supports Win 10 or a different OS that has a better hardware support for older hw such as a linux.
