Hi. I just ran UEFI diagnostics and the test failed for the ShortDST.  The failure id is RSKSL3-7L98LD-XD7WLJ-60UE03 My system seems to be running ok but went to run a scan it didn't run.  My product id is K7W77UA#ABA I would appreciate any help on this.  I don't know how serious it is but would like to fix it asap.  Thank you!

Your Hard Drive has failed or is failing

You would need to call the HP phone support and get the PC fixed.

I think its time for you to backup your pc data. (files etc)

It is very serious.  You need to do something "sooner", not "later".

The HP Diagnostics runs a "short" (in elapsed time) and/or a "long" (in elapsed time) "test" of your "drive".

In your case, it has determined that your disk-drive is in "imminent failure" status.

Compare to an automobile tire that is slowly losing air -- you can definitely drive on it for a while, but you cannot indefinitely drive on it.

Your three best options:

1. since you say that your disk-drive still seems to be working, get a qualified computer technician to purchase an identical disk-drive, and to use "drive-cloning" software to copy everything, byte-for-byte, from "source" to "target".  Then, remove the old disk-drive, and connect the new disk-drive, and you're done -- just like changing an automobile tire.

2. if the computer is still under warranty, HP will replace the disk-drive, at their cost, and will give you the DVD-disks (or a USB memory stick) that will enable you to reinstall Windows.  You probably will "lose" all your personal files that are on the current disk-drive, and you will need to reinstall your programs, e.g., Adobe Reader, and Microsoft Office, et cetera.

Compare this to trading-in your automobile, but not cleaning-out the glove-box, the trunk, and all the items "temporarily" resting on the back seat -- you lose it all your "stuff".

3. If the computer is not under warranty, HP will do as above, but you will be responsible for the cost of a new disk-drive, and for the "labour" by the HP technicians to do the "swap" of disk-drives.

Thank you for your help. I have backed up what I can and I am checking into buying a new drive.  Any suggestions?

The disk-cloning software can work with a "target" disk-drive that is larger than the "source" disk-drive.

Look for a 7200 RPM disk-drive -- your current disk-drive might be the slower 5400 RPM model.
