Hello,

I need help for my notebook that has slowed down a lot lately.

I opened a request on your forum in the gaming section but I didn't get an answer and I thought maybe I opened it in the wrong place.

If I made a mistake you can ignore this request.

I contacted telephone support for this problem, but it hasn't been solved. I called again today, but they didn't give me an explanation or solve this problem

So I wanted some advice from you to solve this problem.

I fear that there is a problem with the thermal paste that is deteriorating and its property of insulation or heat conduction causes an increase in temperatures.

High temperatures throttle the speed of the CPU and therefore a program that ran with certain performances now runs with reduced performances. I did a calculation and a program (video encoding) that ran in 8 hours now takes 12-13. Even hot games have much lower FPS.

Here are the attempts that the telephone technical support suggested to me

update uefi/bios and test via uefi of the hardware components and thermal stress. It did not highlight any problems. But they made me do the cold test and it lasted about 20-25 minutes.

I reinstalled the clean windows system 3 times. With and without updates there were no improvements. Now they told me that we will do other tests and I am waiting for an email with the steps to follow.

I fear that it is the thermal paste, and therefore I asked for a more in-depth intervention in a service center, I extended the warranty with the "care" package. But I was told that the only thing they do is reinstall the operating system.

How can I have more thorough checks done and check if some hardware components need maintenance?

Thanks.

Your laptop’s slowdown could be due to degraded thermal paste, causing inefficient heat transfer and CPU throttling. This problem happens especially during intensive program run such as video editing and encoding tasks.

Since HP support often focuses on software fixes, escalate your case by emphasizing performance degradation, thermal concerns, and requesting a hardware diagnostic, including thermal paste inspection. In the meantime, consider an authorized service center or a reputable repair shop nearby the area where you live.

Be mindful of your warranty, document all interactions, and back up your data before repairs.

The technician I spoke with told me that if the video encoding program is causing this then it is the program that is causing the problem. How can I escalate to a more competent technician?
