Pavilion 17-ar050wm

I am trying to determine the fastest ram that I can install into a Pavilion 17-ar050wm. Since its an apu and shares the system ram with the integrated GPU, faster ram should give a performance increase while playing games.

However I can't see any information about what memory speeds it supports only that its max supported size is 8gb sticks with a speed of 2133mhz (which may be true but it runs with 16gb sticks at the same speed).

Can anyone test what the fastest it will still boot at is? Can I use DDR4 3800mhz, 3200mhz, 3000mhz, 2933mhz, 2800mhz, 2666mhz, or 2400mhz.
If its not capable of using faster memory, is it due to a software bottleneck (Bios) or is it due to a physical one (cpu/mainboard incompatability).
In other words if its software could the bios be modded to run at the faster ram speeds (of course assuming enough experience).

Only speed listed as supported in the maintenance and service guide https://support.hp.com/ca-en/product/hp-pavilion-17-ar000-laptop-pc/15551398/manuals is 2400.

Thanks for the reply, although it really would be best if someone had some high speed ram and the pavilion 17-ar050wm to test it with. Since most of the details in the user manuals are never updated. Hence when faster memory becomes available even if it would work, there's no way of knowing without actually testing it. Unless there's a chipset/cpu incompatability reason.

i appreciate the response. I might see if any of my local computer shops have any High speed laptop memory that I can test with.

Did you ever find out what ram speed and size was the best compatible with your HP 17- AR 050Wm?  I’m trying to increase ram with my sons laptop. Currently it is at 8 GB. Thank you for your time.

The speed is limited at 2400 to the best of my knowledge. As for the Ram limit, to the best of my knowledge it is at least double what the manual says according to a post I read elsewhere. But at that point it starts getting exceedingly expensive, 16gb ddr4 was around 180$ Canadian. Assuming you have a single 8gb stick of memory installed,  I would just add another 8gb stick.

I don't know how much experience you have, but just a heads up, Avoid mixing and matching memory. If you want 16gb get a 2nd stick of the same model 8gb you have. Dont go for 24gb, it either wont work or will have a performance loss.

So basically, I can't personally verify that the memory limit is 32gb (2x 16gb) as I was asking this question prior to obtaining a laptop, and just wanted to see if it was worth purchasing (I didn't end up getting it in, in the end I went with one of the budget Asus Rogs.)
