My Fiancee's Pavilion G6 2210sa has faulty memory card slot and will not boot up or run with memoy module card inserted in faulty slot.
I have swapped memory module cards with a similar machine to verify that it is not the memory card itself and the problem only evident when card inserted in faulty slot.
There are two memory card slots and the machine works fine with 4GB memory module in healthy slot, as long as faulty slot is empty, but the amount of memory is limited to what will work in single slot.
Can anyone confirm if a single 8GB memory module could be fitted in the healthy slot, and would this operate and perform as 2 x 4GB modules would?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated

No sorry the official maximum total memory is 8 gigs which also means the maximum single module is 4 gigs.
There have been some reports that 3rd gen Intel Core machines such as yours can in fact take 2 x 8 gig modules but this is unofficial and also would imply a single 8 gig module would work.
If it would take a single 8 gig module it would not perform quite as well as 2 x 4 gig would because you would not achieve "dual channel" operation which allows memory bandwidth about 8% more than single channel so overall performace is a little bit better with dual channel, but not a lot.
