Hello,
Two weeks ago I noticed my battery life had severely diminished followed by the battery 601 prompt to appear at startup.
Now I notice a significant bulge underneath the touchpad. The notebook is almost exactly two(2) years old and no longer under warranty.
What are my options at this point for getting my battery replaced? Is there a recall I can take advantage of? If not what is the battery model I need to purchase for replacement and can anyone point me to directions for battery installation?
Thanks in advance.

Specs say it has the 3 cell battery.
3-cell, 41 Whr, Li-ion battery L11119-855
HP does have it in stock:
All else being equal, on a laptop this new I would go for the HP battery. Likely a significant price premium but you know what you are getting 100%.

See pages 34-38 here:
You do not provide the specific model number only the series of models. As you can see, some have a 3-cell and some have a 4-cell. The Manual has instructions for and a picture of each. My advice: open it up and see which you have. Once you have done that we can guide you as to where to buy one. This is something you need to do ASAP before any damage occurs from the swelling. All Li-ion batteries can swell and its not limited to HP laptops. There is no recall.
Post back with any more questions.

The model:
8MC21UA HP Pavilion Laptop 15-cs3096nr ALL
From the battery diagnostic tool it seems to be the 3 cell 41W 3.6A battery.
Is there any real benefit to purchasing the replacement from the HP parts store as opposed to laptopbatterydirect or amazon?
