HP knows our laptops are faulty from the manufacturing and will NOT FIX THEM. I called today and provided my serial number & part number and my laptop is not included in the RECALL. They are lying....HP really doesn't know which laptops are faulty. Is the QA process that good. If its that GOOD, how did they make faulty laptops in the first place. I fussed at the non-english speaking person on the phone, hung up and he called me back and fussed. I saved the voicemail.
I have had a Dell, Toshiba, HP and IBM laptop. The best of the bunch are Dell and IBM. I'm not buying another HP.

My computer is on its way back from the ebay team (PCPitstop). It is running again. All for less than $100. PCPitstop did the following to fix the laptop:
"It was a basic reflow then motherboard modification. We fixed the solder points on the bottom of the Northbridge chipset."
Will let you know if it continues to work. Prior to sending it in, it would not start, just kept cycling on and off the blue lights with nothing on the screen.

Great news! Hope it arrives soon and brings a big smile! Wes at PCPitStop seems to know his stuff. After researching his feedback/reputation on eBay I emailed him to see how well he responded to questions_because of recommending his service here to desperate owners.Thankfully I haven't needed the service but would not hesitate to send mine to him if i did.

Computer is up and running. Amazing that the problem they fixed, the NVIDIA chipset, is the same problem the HP rep said could not be the problem, because "it is not an issue with my model". I guess they have to say that since my model is not covered under the recall. I sent my laptop off to www.avonpicpitstop.com and had it back in about a week. If you have a laptop that is not covered in the warranty and don't want to try to fix it yourself, I highly recommend these guys.

Every time a bell rings a dv6700 fails to boot. My mother's laptop has joined the crowd. We just purchased a new Dell pc to replace it. Hopefully HP will admit to the failure and offer compensation to the masses, but I highly doubt this to be the case. Sad thing is that I have 4 hp laptops...luckily none are the same model. My fingers are crossed.
