Hi
I was hoping someone could confirm that I am on the right track with cpu upgrade for my pavilion g6 notebook.
I currently have Intel Core i5-3210M processor (2.5 GHz, SC turbo up to 3.1GHz, 3MB L3 cache), Dual 35W and my service manual has a i7-3612QM processor (2.1 GHz, SC turbo up to 3.1 GHz, 6 MB L3 cache), Quad 35 W listed as a possible option.
Am I correct in thinking that if I obtain said i7 then I should be able to just drop it into my machine and it should all run smoothly?
My product # is B6V17PA#ABG

The series supports Intel Gen 2 CPU's up to Intel® Core™ i7-2620M. Other than that it may not work
Regards.

Ok thanks, so I am a little confused as the i7 you mentioned is not listed in the service manual. Just curious how you check the compatibility of the cpu's and why the ones in the service manual wouldn't work?

I checked the intel sight and it says my chipset (HM76 express) is compatible with the Intel Core i7-3612QM processor?

Ok so still awaiting an answer on why the i7-2620M is going to be compatible with my g6-2113tu HM76 chipset when the cpu is NOT listed in the service manual

as compatible AND it is a Sandy Bridge microarchitecture when the factory i5-3210m is an Ivy Bridge?
I know the Sandy Bridge is probably compatible but from what I can tell is a step backwards from Ivy Bridge.
I have followed some of your other replies re: cpu upgrades for g6 notebooks and you often have referred others to the service manual for compatibility lists. I am curious why my g6 doesn't follow this rule?

Also from what I can tell the performance difference between the cpu I have and the suggested upgrade would not be worth the effort.
