Hello. I have a pavilion g7 laptop with an Intel B960 cpu. I recently tried to upgrade the cpu with an i7-2460m cpu which i bought from ebay. Obviously the cpu is not a brand new one, althogh the description was saying that it wa a new one. Either way i send the laptop on a local repair shop to install the cpu, and after a day the technician told me that as soon as he installed the cpu the laptop refused to boot.
I wonder if anyone has ever come this situation. Do you think that the "new" cpu is faulty, or is there any chance that the firmware or the bios of the laptop is locked on the B960 cpu. In general is this laptop upgradable? I saw in the manual that this kind of laptop could carry the i7-2640m cpu in some models. Also i confirmed that the two procecors have the same bridge type, and the same power specs (35W). Is there anything i am missing?

Did you buy the RIGHT part number from HP ? Which is
666173-001 for Intel Core i7-2640M 2.80 GHz (SC turbo up to 3.50 GHz), PGA processor (4.0 MB L3 cache,
dual core, 35 W)
Please don't ask me why, you NEED right part. You can see a small different from HP part and retails part.
Regards.
