Hey,
I got a new pavilion power laptop recently and I am considering a upgrade to ssd to boot windows from to get the speed benefits and leave the HDD for a storage use.
current hardware is;
Pavilion power 15-cb084no
Intel core-i5 7300HQ
Nvidia gtx 1050 4gb
1TB HDD SATA
So i read on some threads here on HP forums, that pavilion laptops running 7th gen intel processors have a m.2 slot. I've been reading on the m.2 ssd's for couple days from the forums now and I wonder if my laptop supports the SATA or NVMe versions of the m.2 ssd. I want to clone windows on the SSD to get faster boot time and run things faster all around and leave the 1Tb HDD for storage.
So my main concern is if i should buy the SATA or NVMe m.2 and if i can boot the windows from it.

Thanks for engaging in HP support Forums! This is a wonderful location to converse with the community, get assistance and find tips! I understand you need help in upgrading the SSD, on your HP Pavilion notebook. Don't worry as I have a few suggestions which should help you resolve this issue.
After reading your post, I did go through the Product specifications of your product and found that you have 1 TB 7200 rpm SATA hard drive installed on the PC.
Next thing, I would suggest here is to go through the Maintenance and Service guide of your HP notebook, and found that your PC supports PCIe NVMe TLC M.2 solid-state drive:
These are the compatible and tested solid state drive available for your PC.
Dual storage FonƭJurDtLons
● 256 GB PCIe NVMe TLC M.2 SSD + 1 TB (7200 rpm) 9.5 mm
● 128 GB SATA Value SSD + 1 TB (7200 rpm) 9.5 mm
● 128 GB SATA Value SSD + 2 TB (5400 rpm) 9.5 mm/7.2 mm
● 128 GB PCIe NVMe TLC M.2 SSD + 1 TB (7200 rpm) 9.5 mm
● 128 GB PCIe NVMe TLC M.2 SSD + 2 TB (5400 rpm) 9.5 mm/7.2 mm
For detailed study, please go through Chapter 1. Product Description page number 2(Hard drive).
For spare part number, please go through Chapter 3. Illustrated parts catalog page number 18.
I hope this answers your question. Let me know if you need any further assistance.

Thank you very much for the help. I suppose there should be no problem installing the os on the ssd also?
Would you have any suggestions for a working and good quality 256gb NVMe m.2 ssd with HP notebooks?
I found this ssd from a store from my country, what do you think about these? I know there's been quite a lot of conversation regarding this ssd.

Thank you for replying,
As I understand you would like to know if you can install the OS on the SSD, you can install it on the 128GB SATA value SSD but not on the one with PCIe NVMe SSD.
HP does not recommend upgrading or downgrading hardware parts or software that is bundled with the product as It may affect the manufacturer's warranty and performance, however, you could change the configuration at your own discretion.
I hope this helps. Let me know if you need any further assistance. I'll be more than glad to help you.
Feel free to post your query for any other assistance as well,
It's been a pleasure interacting with you and I hope you have a good day ahead.

Thank you! Glad I didn't order it yet. Sorry to ask a lot questions I just don't want to buy a incompatible ssd.
I searched for some ssd's and just to make sure I understood your point I cannot install OS on a PCIe NVMe ssd BUT I can istall it on a m.2 SATA ssd? Like this one ;

As mentioned earlier in my post that the ones which are tested and compatible are listed in the Maintenance and Service guide of your laptop, however, you can try the one which you have seen and check if that helps. HP does not recommend upgrading or downgrading hardware parts or software that is bundled with the product as It may affect the manufacturer's warranty and performance, however, you could change the configuration at your own discretion.
Keep me posted for any further technical issues. I'll be more than glad to help

Do you have any luck of putting Intel 760p 256GB NVMe TLC SSD on your laptop?
I have the same SSD but it cannot be detected. No drive can be seen on bios or windows. My laptop is Pavilion 15-ck though and it should be a newer model of Pavilion 15-cb
