Pavilion x360 dy0502sa
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Saw this laptop in Currys on sale, it's a pentium gold 7505 with 4GB ram.. Guy in store told me you cannot upgrade ram on this ? I can't find much info about this model to verify what he is saying is true ? Anyone know if he is right or wrong ? I like this laptop but 4gb ram is really not good.

Thanks

Hi:

That is a good question.

Below is the link to the manuals page for that model.

HP Pavilion x360 14 Convertible PC 14-dy0000 Manuals | HP® Customer Support

There are two maintenace and service guides listed.

They both indicate that the notebook has two memory slots and can support up to 2 x 8 GB of memory.

They both state that the memory is not customer accessible.

However, both manuals have a section to remove and replace the memory.

The first manual indicates in chapter 5 on page 34...To remove the memory modules, use this procedure and illustration."

But there is no procedure nor is there an illustration.

However, in the second manual, the procedure to remove and replace the memory is there.

Pages 35 - 37.

So, if I had to take an educated guess on it, I would say that you can upgrade the memory.

Thanks for the response, I will read through that.

You're very welcome.

Generally, the 'memory is not customer accessible' statement means that HP wants any work to be done by an authorized service center.

If you feel you can do the work yourself after reading the memory removal and replacement procedure in the manual that is not missing that section, without breaking anything in the process, feel free to do so.

I also found this service teardown video for that model series, which shows the memory can be removed.

I think I can manage to do it. I'm assuming the mother board on the pentium gold is the same as the i3 version motherboard since the processors architecture are quite similar.

I imagine that you can install up to 2 x 16 GB of memory in that model.

The Intel specs state 64 GB is supported but that is probably with 4 memory slots and not 2.

Intel® Pentium® Gold 7505 Processor

This is a major change from the previous generations of Pentium and Celeron processors, where the Pentium/Celeron notebooks only have one memory slot and the max memory supported was 8 GB.

Only the notebooks with the Intel core processors had two memory slots.

However, the 14-dy service manual makes no differentiation regarding the number of memory slots depending on the processor.
