Within the last month my battery has stopped charging. After a web search several pages described uninstalling ""Microsoft ACPI Compliant Control Method Battery". And it worked... for the next boot and then failed again.
This is the page I'm referencing
And the steps
Please perform below shown steps to resolve the issue:
Step 01. Click on the Start Button
Step 02. Type "Device Manager" in the start search box & open the Device Manager
Step 03. Look for Batteries and expand it by click on the + symbol on the left
Step 04. Right Click on "Microsoft ACPI Compliant Control Method Battery" & uninstall
Note: This Battery driver will get re-installed automatically when you restart the Notebook again
Step 05. Please Shutdown the Notebook
Step 06. Please remove the Battery and unplug the Power Adapter
Step 07. Press and Hold the Power Button for full 1 Minute
Step 08. Go ahead and put back the Battery and connect the Power Adapter
Step 09. Look for "Plugged In Charging" message on the Battery icon
After performing all the steps if you are facing the same issue still, please perform three more steps:
1. Run a Battery Check in HP Support Assistant[Install the Software if it's not available]
Note: Replace the Battery If Health Check Status shows Replace
2. Update the latest BIOS for your Notebook from HP Support Site
3. Please check your Notebook with a known good Power Adapter & Battery from a different Notebook
Note: If a known good battery is also not charging we need to replace the system board
As I said above, steps 1-9 works, and at step 9 the battery is charging. It will charge fully, and I will shut it down for the day. I can use it normally without being plugged in, but when I plug it back in to charge it will not charge and I have to repeat steps 1-9 again.
Additional steps from the email:
1. Run battery check in the support assistant - done, no issues.
2. Update bios - Haven't tried yet
3. NA/ battery will charge fine.
I am hesitant to do the BIOS update because I'm afraid of it causing problems I don't have at the moment.
Any ideas how I can get the fix to stick?

For anyone else reading this thread, I did the recomended changes in the one above as well as several other hardware driver updates for hard drive and intel chipsets. (all through HP)
Somewhere between these half dozen updates the issue was fixed and my laptop works "like it is supposed to"

I spoke to soon.
"plugged in, not charging" is occurring again. I had about a week where it would charge. The only thing I can think of that is different this time is that it was the first time I didn't shut down, I just closed the lid to keep it in the same spot for the morning. It didn't charge overnight where (at least I thought) it had twice over the past week.
As stated I successfully did all the previous steps, the Bios update, and ran the power and device fixes.
This morning when it wouldn't charge I re-ran the power and device fixes and restarted with no success.
