Probook 450 G2
Microsoft Windows 7 (64-bit)

Hello.

I have some issues with my HP Probook 450 G2 device. My battery is 2% charged right now, and when I plug it in, it says: 2% (plugged in, not charging). It doesn't charge when my device is shut down either. I tried removing the battery and putting it back, but it didn't work. Does anyone have any suggestion for solving this problem? If so, could you please help me?

Laptops are meant to be portable. Right now I can only use mine only while it is plugged in, and that is not exactly what I bought a laptop for...

450 G2 is maybe a 5 or 6 year old laptop. How old is the battery? I bought my car to drive it around but I understand I have to put new tires on it every 40-60,000 miles or so. Batteries last maybe 2-3 years before needing replacement but some can go longer in which case you count yourself lucky. If the battery is less than 2 years old we have some more difficult troubleshooting to do. If you have the HP Support Assistant app on the laptop you can run the battery test and it will tell us all we could hope to know about the state of health and age of the battery.

Hi, Huffer. Thank you for your answer!

My battery is approximately 2 years old. I am not sure if it is a bit newer than 2 years old or a bit older. Since at the moment we don't know for sure, I think that we could try troubleshooting the problem, and if nothing works, surely it's the battery that needs to be replaced.

Until then, I can say that in the last 10 minutes I left my laptop to charge anyway, hoping that charging will work. Its led turned orange as it always does when it's charging, except that now it is flashing. That is weird.

Another question that I really need to put is: Is it safe to use it while it is plugged in even if the battery doesn't charge? Because unfortunately I might really need to do so until the problem is resolved.

Anyway, I used to have HP Support Assistant on my laptop, but I uninstalled it because it kept sending me annoying popups about its own updates. At that time I realized that it might have its uses, but I haven't researched which those may have been. I will install it back right now and I will run a battery test. I will report back soon.

It seems that you were right. My battery is experiencing a failure with the ID RE00W. I intent to buy another one. But still, I need to use my laptop until then. I am asking again: Is it safe to do so?

Oh, and one more thing... I am having some trouble identifying what battery type I need for my laptop. All the batteries that I found on the HP site are for Probook 450 G2, but they have different SKUs. Which one should be the one I need?
