ExSpectrre x360 Convertible 15-df0xxxample: Pavilion 6530
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hi,

I purchased a HP Spectre x360 convertible 15-df0xxx about a month ago (factory refurbished) and recently tried to use the USB type c (I think type c, it's on the right side of machine and has a three pronged arrow icon and a plug icon) but it doesn't work with any device. I have tried tp plug in a monitor to displayport, a usb hub and a usb stick and nothing works.

The other USB 3 (has a lightning bolt with arrow pointing down) and is on the right corner of the machine still works and is connected to my monitor via displayport now. Also the larger older type of USB still works as well as the hdmi on the other side of machine.

When I first got the hub about a week ago, it worked with both the usb type c and usb 3 but now only the one in the top right corner of the machine.

Is there anyway to get that port to work again? Any help is appreciated!

Yes, that is a USB-C port which

  • Connects an AC adapter that has a USB Type-C connector, supplying power to the computer and, if needed, charging the computer battery.
  • Even when the computer is off, charges most products such as a cell phone, camera, activity tracker, or smartwatch, and provides data transfer.
  • Connects a display device that has a USB Type-C connector, providing DisplayPort output.
  • Note: Cables and/or adapters (purchased separately) may be required.

Your machine also has USB Type-C Thunderbolt™ port (next to the above port, the last one) which

  • Even when the computer is off, connects and charges most USB devices that have a Type-C connector, such as a cell phone, camera, activity tracker, or smartwatch, and provides high-speed data transfer.
  • Connects a display device that has a USB Type-C connector, providing DisplayPort output.
  • NOTE:Your computer may also support a Thunderbolt docking station.
  • NOTE:Cables and/or adapters (purchased separately) may be required.

Regards.

Hi,

Thanks for your reply and info.

The problem is the USB-C port is not working (The USB C Thunderbolt does still work).

Apparently, the USB port was working and had the USB-C hub plugged in (the USB-C hub has 5 USB A ports, 2 USB C ports, an HDMI etc.  only a couple ports were in use at the time) Then an external speaker was plugged into one of the USB A ports on the hub and an error message popped up and said the device was turned off because of a power surge (not
exactly sure what the message read.) and since then the port is not working.

Could the port have been blown out or something?

Here is what I've done to try to fix the problem so far:

Just now, In the Run app, I typed in "msdt.exe -id DeviceDiagnostic" and it couldn't identify any problems.

In Device Manager under the battery drop down menu I tried to update the drivers, however Windows said that the best drivers are already installed.

I also tried to update the drivers in the Universal Serial Bus Controllers drop down menu but those were up to date as well. When I right click on them and choose properties, in the General tap, it says that the device is working properly. In the Power Management tap, I unchecked the box "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power" for both. At the time I still had my external monitor plugged into the USB C and right after unchecking the box, I got an error pop up that said "Unknown USB Device". I then went back to the Device Manager window and under the Universal Serial Bus Controllers drop down menu, there is now a message" Unknown USB Device (Port Reset Failed)" with a yellow caution sign. When I right click on it and choose properties it says "Windows has stopped this device because it has reported problems (Code 43) A USB port reset request failed.

I then unplugged the monitor and plugged in the the USB-C hub but nothing happened and the hub doesn't work.

Not sure what else I can do? Is the port done for or is there some sort of update I can do on my end to fix it? Could it be a hardware issue where the actual port has to be replaced? Is that even possible? Thanks for the help.

That could be the culprit.

Yes, I believe that is the issue. Now, how would I go about getting the port to work again?

You need to see an authorized repairer depending on how bad it is, you may have to replace daughter board or mother board
