Hello, as seen in the title, I have a question regarding repairs while out-of-warranty.

It's come to my attention recently that the battery for my laptop has been significantly depleted to the point where even at 100% battery it'll take approximately a hour to become depleted as compared to a few hours.

I understand that this comes from an ageing battery (I've owned this laptop for a little over 3 years) and potentially an issue with my charger, but this leads to my question:

Is it possible for my laptop to be sent in for repair, so that it can have its battery replaced, even though my warranty has expired? I'd be happy to pay a fee for this, since understandably it is no longer covered.

I'm aware there are available resources online that make it so that I can replace the battery myself, however, I don't have the tools to perform it and I can't find an official battery replacement (I don't want to use 3rd party batteries that I don't trust). As a result, I think the best solution would be to have it sent for repair.

Thanks.

HP does not really replace batteries on out of warranty laptops. That would be like sending a car that needs the brakes relined back to the factory. It would justifiably cost a fortune. We can find you a genuine HP battery to buy from a UK seller and then if you do not want to do it yourself you would have to find a service shop. Its a 10 minute job for a laptop technician with even basic skills. Post back if you want more help.

Thanks for the advice.

To be honest, I thought seeking repairs from a source outside of HP was ill-advised, but if that isn't the case, then I'll approach one.

That is true while under warranty, but after that you are essentially on your own for repairs. People should not be afraid to fix their electronic products and maybe not quite as many will wind up in landfills. Good luck. Some cell phone repair shops will swap out a laptop battery for you and a good one will do it literally while you wait.
