HP Elitebook 820 G3
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hi all,

My HP Elitebook 2570p laptop no longer works and now have a refurb Elitebook 820 G3.  I'd like to hook up my old 2570p 2.5" SATA hard drive to the new 820 G3 laptop as an external drive using the USB Type-C port.

All of my devices use the two USB 3.0 ports (printer, mouse, cell phone, etc.) on the new laptop.  I found a SATA to USB Type-C hard drive adapter to external converter cable and was wondering if I could use that to attach the old drive to the new laptop.  Since I never use the Type-C port (no Apple or Google phone), I'm hoping to use it for the external drive and keep the USB 3 ports available for my other devices.

Many thanks for your help!

HDD has SATA connector. You have to have USB-C to SATA cable can you find that kind of cable ? If yes you can use that cable, no need an enclosure.

There are many enclosures around, for example

Hi,  thanks for the reply.  Was more wondering if I could use a Type-C cable and port to attach old hard drive to new laptop, not so much the enclosure.  Thanks.

Thanks, just wanted to make sure I could use the Type-C port before buying the cable.
