My computer is not recognizing the power cord it came with all of a sudden. I have had it for years, the only thing I can think of is age. It does charge when the computer is off though, just doesn't recognize while the cord while it is on.

Hi @BadPowerCo,
Welcome to the HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.
Thanks for the detailed description. I understand your OMEN Laptop - 17t-cb100 is not recognizing the power cord while powered on, but charges when turned off. This is likely a power delivery or firmware-related issue, not just age.
Here’s how to troubleshoot it:
1. Check the Power Adapter and Port
- Make sure the adapter is the original HP 230W or 200W charger.
- Inspect the DC jack and power port for dust, damage, or looseness.
- Try gently wiggling the connector—if the charging light flickers, the port may be worn.
2. BIOS Restore:
1) Shut down the computer, keep the charger plugged in
2) Hold down the Windows and B buttons together while the computer is still turned off.
3) Turn on the computer and continue to hold the Windows and B buttons until a BIOS Recovery screen appears.
4) Follow the on-screen instructions and click on OK.
3. Update BIOS and Power Drivers
- Visit the OMEN Laptop - 17t-cb100 IDS Base Model Software and Driver Downloads | HP® Support.
- Download and install:
- The latest BIOS update
- Intel chipset drivers
- HP System Event Utility
- Battery and power management drivers
BIOS updates often fix power recognition issues.
I hope this helps.
Take care, and have an amazing day!

So the link, won't let me put in the Windows I have. I have Windows 11, and the only option is Windows 10, so I can't use it, thank you though. I am guessing I don't have the base model like it says, but that is what is on record or something.
