Microsoft Windows 8 (64-bit)
My computer is approximately 3 years old. It has the original battery and all of the Windows updates. The most recent update was done approximately 3 days ago. Yesterday my computer would not turn on. I thought it was because the power cord had come unplugged so I attempted to plug it in again it was already plugged in I pressed the power button nothing happened. I checked online and found the answer about the three orange lights so I checked my computer and yes it had multiple answers about three orange lights none of which I was very happy to read. My computer has been on a battery backup ever since I bought it- my computer I mean. when I speak of my computer I'm speaking of my laptop. I also have an HP desktop. Anyway I disconnected my laptop from the battery up and the computer turned on. My first thought is that the battery backup is bad. Today I went to use my laptop and the three orange lights scenario happened again and now I'm not so sure that it was my battery backup although I did throw away my battery backup because it was very old. Now my computer will not turn on at all and it is directly plugged into the wall. It is of course out of warranty and now all of my documents pictures videos are on my hard drive of my laptop. I did attempt to back up some of my documents yesterday when this happened but I didn't have a lot of time to do that add now this is happened again. I need help please!!! I have always had great experience with HP and I still believe it to be a very good company however I have the situation and I don't know what to do at this point.

Hi @yosefsimcha,

Thank you for visiting the HP Forums! A great place where you can find solutions for your issues with help from the community! I came across your post and wanted to assist you. As I understand that you are facing no power issue with the notebook. Don't worry as I have a few  suggestions which should help you resolve this issue.

To provide you with an accurate solution, I'll need a few more details:

When you try to turn it on, do you hear the fan running? Or do you get any beeping noises/blinking lights?

Does the laptop shutdown right away if the charger is disconnected from the laptop?

Have you tried to use a different compatible charger and check if it helps?

Did this happen after a power surge or power outage?

In the meantime, let's try these steps here:

Perform the below steps:

If the computer does not start, the LED lights do not glow, and the display is black,

you can perform one or more of the following actions to resolve the no power issue:

(Click on the blue letters to get more details about each step)

  1. Examine the adapter and power cord for physical damage

  2. Test the power from the AC wall outlet to the notebook connector

  3. Start computer using the battery only

  4. Check that the lid switch moves freely

  5. When you have completed the troubleshooting steps, there should be power available to the computer. When you press the power button, the LEDs should glow, and you should hear the sounds of the fan and the hard drive spinning.

If the issue persists, I would personally suggest you contact our HP Phone Support for further assistance. If your product is Out of warranty then remember to choose the paid options to get the tech support number.
